The Global Research Investment Challenge
The Global Research Investment Challenge is a world-wide investment challenge which tests the analytic, valuation, report writing, and presentation skills of university students. Last year, nearly 2,500 students from 546 different universities in countries participated in the competition. Each team analyzes and presents their findings on a publicly traded company (http://researchchallenge.org/Pages/Default.aspx).
The Baltimore CFA Society (BCFAS) is co-hosting, along with the Washington D.C. CFA Society, the 2012 CFA Institute "Global Research Investment Challenge". Participating universities in both the Maryland and DC areas include American University, Georgetown University, George Washington University, Johns Hopkins University, Morgan State University, Towson University, and the University of Maryland.
The BCFAS is involved for a number of reasons. Improving CFA Charter awareness, increasing local university relations, and student enrichment are just a few of the positive outcomes we expect the competition to provide. The board is currently seeking volunteers to help make this competition be the best experience possible. |

This year we have 5 judges, 10 graders, 6 industry mentors, and 6 professor mentors volunteer in our event. It is anticipated as one of the most exciting events of the year. There will be a reception immediately following the presentation.
Please join us for an afternoon of excitement with our university teams.
The challenge gives college students the opportunity to gain viable investment experience via analysis of a publicly traded organization through fundamental research and collaboration with their peers. This year's subject company is Under Armour. Based out of Tide Point, Under Armour was founded in 1996 by University of Maryland graduate, Kevin Plank and has been publicly traded since November of 2005. In 2010, Tom Brady became the most notable professional athlete to sign an endorsement deal with Under Armour which has helped the organization continue to grow its brand recognition and product line especially amongst youth segments. | |

The Baltimore CFA Society would like to thank for following individuals for their generous support in our 2012 Global Investment Research Challenge local level. Without their help, the event could not be possible. Students had a wonderful learning experience and are thankful for all volunteers’ efforts. We look forward to the next year event and hope that many of you can join us again. Congratulations to Seth Borko, Kristen Dales, Omar Eltorai, Mark Kruzel and John Stefos of American University. The students will advance to the Regional level competition in New York.
