Charter Awards - 29th November
CFA Society Finland hosted its annual Charter Awards Ceremony and Christmas Party in Hotel Klaus K on 29 November, 2018. This year we were pleased to congratulate 14 new CFA Charterholders. During the event we heard great presentations from Juha Eskelinen, D.Sc. of Aalto University and Sonia Ghandi, CFA, Director at CFA Institute.
CFA Institute Research Challenge - Kick Off - 14th November
On 14th of November 2018, the CFA Institute Research Challenge got under way in Finland. The Kick Off Session was held in Kansallissali, Helsinki. This year, the following six universities took place in Finland:
Aalto University, Jyväskylä School of Business and Economics, Lappeenranta University of Technology, Oulu University, University of Eastern Finland and University of Turku.
In the competition this year, the students were researching on Cargotec Plc., a leading provider of cargo handling solutions. Hanna-Maria Heikkinen, VP of Investor Relations at Cargotec, gave an insightful presentation about Cargotec's operations and future outlook.
In addition, CFA Society Finland's sponsor, Refinitiv, gave a presentation about their flagship product Eikon. In the competition, the students are given an access to use Eikon in order to crunch the numbers of and around Cargotec.
Judging by the enthusiasm among the students, we're confident that the Finns will nail it in the Global Finals of CFA Research Challenge in New York City on April, 2019.
Investment firm of the future – 17 October
The investment industry is in the middle of a major transformation, which will open many opportunities, but will also pose multiple challenges for ivestment professionals and their employers. All areas from business models to distribution and personnel will see changes. CFA Society Finland members had the opportunity to discuss an important report on the topic with CFA Institute EMEA managing director Gary Baker, CFA and deputy CEO Bjorn Forfang, CFA in an event on the eve of the EMEA Society Leadership Conference in Helsinki (18-19 October 2018). The conference was focused on professionalism and the issue of raising starndard in the financial industry, including a strong focus on continuous learning, which will help to improve public trust in the profession.

The Future of Capital Markets in the European Union - 20 September
Co-hosted with Aalto University, CFA Society Finland organized a seminar and offered interesting insights to the important and current topic of European Capital Markets Union. Several high profile speakers were invited as well as a lively panel discussion hosted by Josina Kamerling, Head of Regulatory Outreach, EMEA at CFA Institute, which offered new ideas and food for thought.
