CFA Research Challenge

 General Information for 2011- 2012

The CFA Society of Hawaii is hosting a local CFA Research Challenge (CFARC) in 2012. The Challenge gathers students, investment industry professionals, publicly traded companies, and corporate sponsors together locally, regionally, and globally for a real world competition.

Challenge Components

  1. Analysis of Public Company
  2. Mentoring by a Professional Research Analyst
  3. Writing a Research Report
  4. Presentation of Research to a High-Profile Panel of Experts
  5. Advancement to the Global Final

How the Challenge works:

  • CFA-Hawaii hosts and launches an Investment Research Challenge in conjunction with the participating universities
  • The universities assemble teams of 3-5 business and finance students who work directly with a company in researching and preparing a company analysis
  • Mentors are CFA charterholders with equity analysis experience will be assigned to each team to help the students
  • Each team (one team per school) submits a research report on a specified company and later does a final presentation in front of a judge's panel consisting of industry members

The contest begins in Fall 2011 as teams are formulated.  Mentors meet with the students several times between September and January. The local champion is determined in January/February 2012 and will advance to regional competitions held in March 2012.

If you are interested in joining a team, please contact Paul Yamashita and refer to the Research Challenge website for more detailed information.
