Speaker Bio's:
Karl E. "Chip" Case, Professor of Economics, Wellesley College
Karl E. Case is the Katherine Coman and A. Barton Hepburn Professor of Economics at Wellesley College where he has taught for 30 years. Case is also a founding partner in the real estate research firm of Fiserv Case Shiller Weiss, Inc. and serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Mortgage Guaranty Insurance Corporation (MGIC) and of the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association.
Professor Case received his B.A. from Miami University in 1968, spent three years on active duty in the Army, and received his Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University in 1976. Professor Case's research has been in the areas of real estate, housing and public finance. He is author or co-author of five books including Principles of Economics, Economics and Tax Policy and Property Taxation: The Need for Reform and has published numerous articles in professional journals. Principles of Economics, a basic text co-authored with Ray C. Fair, is in its eighth edition and has been adopted at more than 450 colleges and universities.
For the last 25 years, his research has focused on real estate markets and prices. He has authored a number of studies that attempt to isolate the causes and consequences of boom and bust real estate cycles and their relationship to economic performance.
Tobias Madden, Regional Economist, Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank
Toby Madden is a regional economist in the public affairs department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. In this position, he writes articles for bank publications and frequently speaks on the district economy. In addition, Madden is actively involved with the bank's economic education program.
Madden joined the Minneapolis Fed in 1995 as a management analyst in the automated clearing house area. Prior to joining the Fed, Madden worked for five years at TCF Financial Corporation in investments and management reporting and for five years at Ernst and Young as a senior consultant in the financial services industry group.
A native of Minnesota, Madden has a bachelor's degree in accounting and a master's degree in finance from the University of Minnesota. He is currently working toward a doctorate degree in applied economics at the University of Minnesota. Madden is a certified public accountant and a certified management accountant. Madden is past president of the Minnesota Economic Association and is on the Board of the Institute for Financial Economics.
Alex Stenback, Mortgage Banker, Residentail Mortgage Group
Alex Stenback is a Mortgage Banker with Residential Mortgage Group (of Division of Interbank, FSB) headquarted in Minnetonka, MN. who specializes in high credit quality residential real estate lending.
In addition to mortgage banking, Alex also writes and publishes Behind The Mortgage, a Twin Cities focused mortgage and real estate blog, founded in 2004, that garners 15,000 monthly readers.
Alex began his career in mortgage banking in 1998, after serving four years as an officer in the United States Navy, and now lives in Plymouth Minnesota with his wife, Kelly and two children.
John G. Wenker, Head of Real Estate, FAF Advisors
John is responsible for the investment process and performance of the Real Estate Securities team. He is lead manager of the Real Estate Debt product. John is co-lead manager of the Real Estate Securities product, which invests primarily in equity real estate investment trusts. He is also co-portfolio manager of the Global Infrastructure product, which invests in listed infrastructure companies.
Starting work in the financial services industry in 1983, John joined FAF Advisors in 1992 as a managing director of the Fixed Income department. He is a member of FAF Advisors’ Operating Committee, the Asset Allocation Committee, and the Investment Strategy Committee. As an FAF Advisors spokesperson on real estate issues, John has appeared on CNBC TV’s “Squawk Box” and has been quoted in publications such as BusinessWeek and The Wall Street Journal.
John earned a B.A. in public administration from Metropolitan State University, and an M.B.A. in finance from the University of St. Thomas.
