Complete and submit the completed 2-page application form and all the suppporting application documentation, along with your dues payment, to the CFA Society of Minnesota
1. Your application materials will be reviewed and then submitted to the Board of Directors for approval. The CFA Society of Minesota Board of Directors meets once each month on the third Thursday, so please allow up to 6 weeks for follow up from the Society. If approved for membership, you will receive a welcome letter with important member information the week following approval.
How are Student and Local-Only memberships different than a Regular membership?
Regular and Affiliate Members of the CFA Society of Minnesota are also members of CFA Institute. Local-Only and Student members are only members of the CFA Society of Minnesota. Affiliate, Local-Only, and Student members have all the local privileges of Regular members except the right to vote, hold office in the Society, and act as sponsors for membership. If you do not qualify for Affiliate or Regular membership, have no intention of becoming a CFA Charterholder, and are not a student, Local-Only membership is the appropriate membership type for you. If you are a university student, a Student Membership is the appropriate membership type for you.
How Do I Renew my Student or Local-Only membership?
Verify that you are still eligible for Local-Only or Student membership (see the Membership Requirements page on our website; you may now be eligible for membership with CFA Institute which requires members to apply for membership with CFA Institute and then select their local society affiliation through their CFA Institute account). Use this FORM for the annual renewal process; fill out the form to help us ensure your membership data is accurate and current and mail it to the CFA Society of Minnesota with a check for your annual dues (the CFA MN office address can be found below, or on the Contact Us page of this website).
How Do I Renew my membership through CFA Institute ?
If you are a local society member through CFA Institute, you can renew your membership by logging into your MyCFA account.

What must I submit for my Minnesota Membership application to be considered complete?
Look at the bottom of the 2nd page of the membership application and you will find a Submission Checklist. It includes the following:
-
-
Professional Conduct Statement
-
2 Sponsor Forms
-
Proof of passing Level 1 or Ethics Exam
-
Copy of Resume
-
Bio (optional if this information is included in submitted resume)

-
Professional organization membership (optional)

What is the Ethics Exam?
One of the submission requirements for the Local-Only membership application process is to have “Proof of passing Level 1 or Ethics Exam.” CFA Institute uses this Ethics Exam as the alternative when an applicant has not yet passed Level 1 of the CFA Exam, as does the CFA Society of Minnesota. After completing the Ethics Exam, you will need to print the first page of your final report and include it in your application submission (we do not need nor want all 18 pages of the report and you will not want to pay the additional postage). Follow this link to find the Ethics Exam. Click "Voluntary Self-Test" to take the exam.
