Jurgen Rigterink, Chief Risk & Finance Officer The Netherlands Development Finance Company
Jurgen Rigterink was appointed Chief Risk & Finance Officer as of January 2014 after serving as FMO’s Chief Investment Officer since 2008. With an investment portfolio of over EUR 6 billion, FMO is one of the largest bilateral private sector development banks worldwide. FMO creates access to a full range of financial products and services to private sector enterprises in developing markets with a focus on financial institutions, energy, agribusiness and private equity. Jurgen started his career at Bank Brussels Lambert working in Brussels, Chicago and New York before joining ABN AMRO in 1997. He has since served in a variety of senior positions including Sector Head for Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa. In 2005, Jurgen was appointed Chairman of the Management Board and Country Executive at ABN AMRO Bank Kazakhstan.
Jurgen has a Masters Degree in Economics from Rijks Universiteit Groningen, the Netherlands, and is also a Member of the Supervisory Board of the Netherlands Council for Trade promotion (Nederlands Centrum voor Handelsbevordering).
Prof. Mariana Mazzucato Economist and RM Phillips Chair in Science & Technology Policy at the University of Sussex
Mariana Mazzucato is an economist with an interest in the relationship between innovation and growth, and economic policies that can ensure that economic growth is not only 'smart' but also inclusive and sustainable.
Mariana is currently R. M. Phillips Professor in the Economics of Innovation (SPRU department) at the University of Sussex (UK) and Visiting Professor in the Economics of Innovation at the Open University (UK). She was recently Scientific Coordinator of a 3 year European Commission funded FP7 project on Finance, Innovation and Growth (FINNOV, 2009-2012), and she is currently working on two new research projects, one funded by the Ford Foundation, and the other by the Institute for New Economic Thinking. She is a trustee of the Green Alliance and a member of two expert groups in the European Commission on 'Innovation for Growth' (i4g) and 'Public Sector Innovation'.
Mariana’s latest book is Entrepreneurial State, where she argues that key periods of innovation led growth have witnessed the State as market 'creator' and market 'shaper' not simply market 'fixer'. Her work also appeared in Financial Times, Public Finance, and New Scientist. She was featured at the TED Global 2013 in Edinburgh.
Arthur Van Slooten, Senior Strategist Société Générale
Arthur van Slooten joined Société Générale in 1994. Initially he has worked as a European Equity strategist. Currently, he is a senior strategist in the Global Asset Allocation team. Arthur studied Economics and French at the University of Amsterdam. His team was ranked #1 in the 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 Thomson Extel Survey.
