Michael Wallberg, CFA

Mr. Wallberg worked as a Canadian equity analyst and institutional portfolio manager during his 11 years with Phillips, Hager & North Investment Management. He joined PH&N from Merrill Lynch, where he worked as an investment banker and global relationship manager in Calgary and London, UK. Mr. Wallberg graduated from the University of British Columbia with a B.Comm (hons) specializing in Finance in 1998 and received his CFA charter in 2003. He returned to UBC in 2012 to earn his Master of Journalism and went on to produce television news for CBC. He currently works as Vice President, Marketing & Communications for Leith Wheeler Investment Counsel and serves as President on the Board of CFA Society Vancouver.

Nick Karliychuk, CFA
Mr. Karliychuk is Director of Operations and IT with Dixon Mitchell Investment Counsel Inc., where he heads several functions, including operations, trading, reporting, technology, cybersecurity and business continuity. He is  leading the portfolio administration and investment accounting team along with coordinating work of technology providers and cooperating with president and partners to support technology needs and overall business strategy. He has volunteered with CFA Society Vancouver since 2013 and has been responsible for organizing educational events, overseeing the Programs Committee. Mr. Karliychuk is a CFA charterholder.​​

Elvis Picardo, CFA
Elvis Picardo is a Portfolio Manager and Director, Private Client Group at HollisWealth®, a division of Industrial Alliance Securities Inc. Prior to joining HollisWealth, he was Vice President-Research and a Portfolio Manager at a leading independent investment dealer in Vancouver. He brings a global perspective to investment research and portfolio management, with experience in equities, options, currencies and fixed income. Mr. Picardo has more than 20 years of international capital markets experience in diverse disciplines, having commenced his career in the financial industry as a currency trader and treasury manager in Hong Kong and India. He received the CFA® charter in 1998 and holds the Canadian Investment Manager designation, as well as a bachelor's degree in engineering and a master's in management studies. He is a frequent contributor to several leading financial publications and is an active volunteer and mentor.

Claire Cobden, CFA
Ms. Cobden is VP, Treasurer at BlueShore Financial, BC's fourth largest credit union. She is responsible for daily treasury operations and trading, including the recommendation and implementation of asset-liability management strategies relating to liquidity, interest rates, capital, credit and foreign exchange. Prior to joining BlueShore Financial, Ms. Cobden was the Assistant Treasurer for MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates, a global communications and information technology company.  She started her career in Vancouver with KPMG, and spent 8 years in London, England working in investment banking, M&A, corporate finance and securitization. She has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from UBC, and holds both the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Chartered Professional Accountant (CA, CPA) designations.​

Michael Job, CFA
Mr. Job joined Leith Wheeler in September 2007 after graduating from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. While at Dalhousie, he majored in finance and completed co-op placements in equity research and investment banking at a major Canadian bank. At Leith Wheeler, Mr. Job is responsible for managing both Private and Institutional clients, including Foundations and First Nations. He currently serves as Past President on the CFA Society Vancouver Board of Directors and holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Celene is currently the Vice President, Finance at Alabaster Homes, a Vancouver-based real estate development firm specializing in premier townhome and condominium projects. In her role, Celene oversees the finance team in corporate finance strategy and execution, business development, capital structure planning and analysis, financial reporting, treasury, risk management and regulatory compliance.

Prior to joining Alabaster, Celene was an institutional investment manager for a charitable foundation and its benefactor family, advising on a globally diversified portfolio of assets, including private equity, private debt, pooled funds and public securities. Celene has extensive investment experience in real estate, oil and gas, and marine transport sectors, and is a specialist in financial modeling and transaction due diligence. In addition to advanced degrees in Economics from UBC and SFU, Celene has been a CFA charterholder since 2016 and completed the CIM designation in 2015.​​

Mr. Lage has held various positions in private and public companies (energy, hospitality and business aviation), start-ups (education), and government (energy and economic development) over his career. Fluent in four languages, he has a degree in Economics, and holds the CFA charter and an MBA. Mr. Lage recently relocated to Vancouver from Alberta, where he served as Vice President of CFA Society Edmonton. He is currently looking for career opportunities in the Lower Mainland. 


Lauren Manteuffel v2.jpgLauren Manteuffel, CFA
Ms. Manteuffel is Vice President, Finance for ARON Industries, the family office of Andrea Thomas Hill and Brian Hill. She previously held leadership positions at the Corix Group of Companies as Vice President, Finance and as Vice President for a single family investment office. Prior to working in industry, Ms. Manteuffel worked in M&A structuring at Deloitte & Touche. She has lectured for CFA exam preparatory programs and on the topics of Financial Modeling and Business Valuation for UBC. She is a CFA charterholder and a Chartered Professional Accountant (CA, CPA).


2020 - Andy Marshall.jpgAndrew Marshall, CFA
Mr. Andy Marshall is a Chartered Accountant (CA) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) with over 15 years of public company accounting, finance and corporate governance experience. He joined First Mining Gold Corp. in June 2015 and assisted in building the company’s gold portfolio during its period of growth when it acquired eight companies in just over one year. Prior to this, Andy held roles at two Vancouver based TSX/NYSE MKT-listed silver mining companies with operations in Mexico and Canada. He began his career in public company auditing and assurance with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, training in the London technology, entertainment and mining practice before moving to Vancouver and joining their mining practice in 2008. Andy graduated from the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in England with a BA (Hons).

Jordan Trimble is the President, CEO and a Director of Skyharbour Resources, a TSX Venture listed uranium exploration and development company. He has founded and serves as a Director and Officer of several publicly listed resource companies having worked in the industry specializing in management, corporate finance, shareholder communications and capital raising. Mr. Trimble has appeared on BNN several times and has given presentations at numerous resource conferences across North America. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree with a Minor in Commerce from UBC and he is a CFA® Charterholder. Mr. Trimble is also a Director of Face of Today which is a charitable organization comprised of young leaders with a mission to empower underprivileged individuals to achieve their life goals and provide a stepping stone for future development in the local community.

Mr. Wilkinson is a Senior Analyst/Trader and a Principal at Connor Clark and Lunn Investment Management Ltd.  He works on the fixed income team spending the majority of his time on trade execution and risk management. Prior to his current role at the firm, he spent a number of years as a senior analyst on the business analytics team within the Connor Clark and Lunn Financial Group.  He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Victoria and became a CFA Charterholder in 2007.

Ms. Yu worked as an Associate Portfolio Manager for over 6 years with Central 1 Credit Union focussing on fixed income, treasury, and portfolio management for B.C. and Ontario credit union clients. Prior to joining Central 1, Ms. Yu worked with both private wealth and institutional clients based throughout Canada at Raymond James Ltd. Ms. Yu spent 6 years volunteering with Association of Women in Finance for their year-round Fireside Chat Series. She has been a CFA charterholder since 2019 and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.

The Candidates Development Committee organizes programs and activities, which help CFA Program candidates and potential candidates address topics on the CFA Program, career development, career management, and career transition during and after the completion of the Program.  The Committee also coordinates and administers the CFA Exam Scholarships twice per year, organizes information sessions at local post-secondary institutions, and offers the Boston Mock Exam to candidates.

Forecast Dinner
Chair:  Nick Karliychuk, CFA
The Major Events Committee organizes two high profile events each year, which include the Forecast Dinner in January and the CFA Day Networking Luncheon in June. The annual Forecast Dinner is considered one of CFA Society Vancouver's most prominent events.  The dinner provides members and their clients with the opportunity to hear relevant unbiased forecasts of future market expectations. The CFA Day Networking Luncheon is a cross-designation event, which brings together members from a variety of organizations including CGA Association of BC, TMAC BC, Chartered Accountants of BC and CICBV.

Programs

The purpose of the Programs Committee is to provide educational programs that fit the mandate and strategy of CFA Society Vancouver, (e.g. professional development, networking, client relations, etc.), as well as the requirements of CFA Institute.  The objective is to ensure quality programming is available for the CFA Society Vancouver membership, clients, investors and other professionals.

Public Awareness

The purpose of the Awareness Committee is to enhance awareness of the CFA brand within the Vancouver investment community, including CFA Society Vancouver members, employers, academia, members of other professional organizations, financial and business media contacts, and the general investing public.

Social

The Social Committee organizes a variety of social events each quarter to foster fellowship amongst CFA members and candidates.  Events include pub nights, martini tasting and a Monte Carlo Night hosted in partnership with the CA Institute of BC and the Canadian Bar Association.

The goal of the Sponsorship Committee is to introduce CFA Society Vancouver to a variety of sponsors that may be interested in partnering with the Society for major events and programs, and supporting our mission to promote best practices and the highest professional and ethical standards in the investment industry.  Sponsorship opportunities include the Forecast Dinner, CFA Day, seminars and workshops, and networking events. 

University Outreach
Co-Chairs: Lisa Meger, CFA and Yoel Tewelde
The University Outreach Committee's goals are to increase awareness of the designation amongst students and to enhance the Society's relationships with local universities and colleges.  This is accomplished through educational seminars and presentations, in addition to participation at various career and education fairs.  The Committee is also mandated to provide opportunities for students to become involved with CFA Society Vancouver, as well as the local Financial community.
