November Luncheon - Is this the Winter of our Discontent: Global Financial Stress or Stability?

When:  Nov 15, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 01:00 PM (CT)
Associated with  CFA Society Austin

Topic: Is this the Winter of our Discontent: Global Financial Stress or Stability?

There have been several pundits espousing constructive predictions of the outcome from the Federal Reserve tightening post a historic level of stimulus both monetarily and fiscally.  The argument for a soft landing is certainly appealing, but is it realistic?  Orchard Global’s CEO Paul Horvath unfortunately has a less sanguine view bulwarked by his understanding of the behaviors of the Systemically Important Financial Institutions (SIFIs) given their leaders’ outlook and what that will do to credit.

Speakers: Paul Horvath, CEO from Orchard Global
Mr. Horvath is the Chief Executive Officer of Orchard Global. Prior to co-founding Orchard Global, Mr. Horvath held leadership roles in credit, structured credit, alternative assets and derivatives at J.P Morgan and Merrill Lynch from 1994 to 2008. Earlier in his career, Mr. Horvath held positions at Bear Stearns and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

Mr. Horvath is a Trustee of the Washington National Cathedral and has served on and chaired the Investment Committees for the Washington National Cathedral, the National Cathedral School, and the Protestant Episcopalian Cathedral Foundation. Furthering his philanthropic commitments, Mr. Horvath is the Chairman of the Board of the Hungarian American Institute, is on the Board of Regents of Georgetown University and serves on Johns Hopkins Joint Krieger Advisory Board Executive Committee & Physics and Astronomy Council. He sits on the President’s Council of the National Constitution Center and is a founding Board Member and Treasurer of the American Friends of the Munich Security Conference.

Mr. Horvath holds a BS in Economics and International Relations from Georgetown University and has an MBA from Harvard Business School.
