Hurricane Dorian struck the Abaco Islands and Grand Bahama as a powerful category 5 hurricane from September 1 - 3, 2019. The hurricane was the strongest to ever hit The Bahamas, with sustained winds of 185 mph (298 km/h) and gusts above 200 mph (320 km/h). Hurricane Dorian utterly devastated these islands in The Bahamas, with parts of Abaco being left in complete rubble and over 70,000 individuals displaced. Many people have lost their lives with the official death toll sitting at 61 and hundreds more still unaccounted for. Meanwhile, survivors have lost their homes, businesses and public infrastructure with the total estimated cost of the damage expected to be in the range of $3 billion to $7 billion.

While the majority of CFA charterholders reside on New Providence Island and were not directly affected by the storm, various charterholders have family members residing on Abaco and Grand Bahama and were therefore indirectly affected. While our members have individually volunteered and financially assisted, CFA Society The Bahamas (CFASB) sees it as our civic duty to do all that we can to assist those that have been impacted by the storm.

CFASB has created a GoFundMe account with a goal of raising $50,000 starting with its own donation of $5,000. CFASB sincerely requests that societies, individual members and CFAI staff consider making a donation to assist with this cause. The funds raised will be donated in December to reputable relief institutions in The Bahamas.
