CFA Society Calgary has experienced rapid growth over the past decade and has grown from about 350 members in 2000 to over 1600 today. In 2008,
CFA Society Calgary partnered with CFA Institute to create the Bullish on Your Future ™ art initiative. The vision was to create an iconic bronze sculpture in the heart of downtown
Calgary which represents the city’s energy and optimism, acknowledge its heritage and presents the city as a rising financial centre.
The idea for the project sprung from a successful marketing and branding campaign where the slogan “Bullish on Your Future” was used in billboards. Not only was the slogan positive and upbeat but it was culturally relevant given
“While the bull has come to represent a distinct global financial symbol of optimism and prosperity, the Bullish on Your Future ™ art initiative is also inspired by Outlaw, Canada’s most famous bull.” said Vern Malcolm, CFA, outgoing President of
CFA Society Calgary.
This impressive structure designed by renowned western artist Richard Loffler towers 11 feet above the streetscape in downtown
“This project was a tremendous community effort and involved partnering with the Calgary Stampede and corporate sponsors to make it a reality.” says Wes Peters, CFA, Chair of the Bullish on Your Future™ Committee.
CFA Society Calgary established a dedicated committee of past and current board members who worked for approximately three years on the project from initial concept to final execution. In addition to providing leadership for the project, through special fundraising initiatives, CFA Society Calgary was also a major financial sponsor of the project.
“The unveiling of this iconic sculpture will certainly be a society highlight and something our membership can be proud of for years to come. Personally, to be part of a legacy project that beautifies the city, is meaningful to the citizens of Calgary, highlights the contributions of finance professionals to our economy and increases the awareness of the CFA designation is a tremendous privilege.” said Malcolm.
“Without the original confidence of CFA Institute and seed funding, this project would have remained a dream. On behalf of our members and candidates and an entire city we want to thank CFA Institute and our visionary sponsors for their support and vision” said Robert Cooper, incoming President.
Outlaw was unveiled on May 27, 2010.
