To All CFA Charterholders & CFA Program Candidates
This is an update newsletter from the Board of Directors of the Czech CFA Society to keep you informed about events and activities in the Czech CFA world. Going forward, we would like to use this newsletter to strengthen the community and provide you with more opportunities to connect with each other. There has never been a better time to get in touch than in the current turbulent times!
Please let us share some information on current developments:
I. Charter Awarding Ceremony
We are pleased to announce that the CAC event will happen again this year:
Date and time: 4th December 2008, 18:30,
Venue: CERGE, Politických vězňů 7, Praha 1
Post-event Christmas Party: starts after 20:00, venue to be confirmed
Jiri Musil, Member of the Management Board, Credit Suisse Asset Management will be the keynote speaker, discussing the current situation of financial markets. So far, nine successful candidates are expected to receive their CFA charter and our congratulations. Thanks to our renewed media partnership with Economia a.s., the achievement of the new charterholders will also be advertised in Ekonom during the week of the event.
There will be a party after the official part of the evening, which could be the first Christmas party you attend this year. Please come to network, get inspired and have a good time with other CFA charterholders and candidates and industry professionals. Dinner and drinks will be compliments of the Czech CFA Society.
II. 7th Annual Forecasting Dinner
Currently we are intensifying our efforts to pull together our traditional Forecasting Dinner event, which will be held either on 12th or 19th of February 2009 at Czech National Bank premises. Please mark your diary! We will inform you of the further developments either through our website (www.czechcfa.cz) or a follow-on newsletter similar to this one.
III. A call for sponsors
Our current funding situation is rather tight. The CFA Institute continues to provide similar support to what we received in previous years, but as this funding is USD denominated, we have suffered from the strengthening CZK. Also the membership fees, which have remained unchanged since the Czech CFA Society was established in early 2002, are USD denominated.
To enhance or at least maintain the same level of activity as in the previous years, we need to enhance our visibility to potential sponsors. We believe the Forecasting Dinner, which has become one of the most prestigious events in the Czech financial community over the past six years, now has a good potential for attracting sponsors. Similarly, the Charter Award Ceremony and other events shall not be left behind, as they also draw significant interest in the investment community.
Attached you will find our introduction to sponsors. If you know anyone, including your employer, who might be interested in sponsoring our Society in general (which is our preferred option) or some particular event, please contact Lukas Brych (Lukas.Brych@cz.ey.com or +420 603 577 826) or anybody else from the Society Board to discuss. Please consult any ideas regarding potential sponsors with us in advance, as we need to manage potential conflicts of interest with current sponsors.
IV. CFA Program candidates: sponsorships available!
In the past, the Czech CFA Society has done a poor job of communicating to candidates the availability of scholarships that fully cover the cost of CFA Program enrollment. Please see the below attached summary of scholarship rules, and we hope that applications outnumber our 10 available scholarships this year!
V. The website
Please have a look at our website www.czechcfa.cz, which has been significantly updated over the last few months. From now on, we shall use it much more to get in touch and inform you of latest developments. The exact date of the Forecasting Dinner event shall be announced through the website once the preparations are finalized.
We welcome any of your comments and feedback. Please do not hesitate to contact us through www.czechcfa.cz, where you can find our contact details.
