Title

Uncomfortable Conversations about Racial Discrimination

Event Description

The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) committee is very excited to introduce live programming regarding diversity and inclusion initiatives in our industry and exploring ways to foster change. To kick off our first three-part series of programming focused on the topic of racial diversity in our industry, we are pleased to present Kellie Sauls, Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion for the Teacher Retirement System of Texas. Ms. Sauls will speak on the historical context of racism in the U.S. and the legacy it has left behind that we are still grappling with today.  Building on this context, she will address systemic and institutionalized racism, ways to dismantle it and ways to best prepare for an increasingly diverse workforce and society. After we have finished this three-part series, our second series will focus on biases.  We all have unconscious biases, and this series will focus how to define, identify, and if necessary, change our biases.
