Event Description

A New Dawn for Central Bank Money?

Bitcoin was originally designed as "A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System". This ambition to radically challenge the current financial system has raised the attention of central banks. At the same time, blockchain, the innovative technology underlying bitcoin, also generated significant interest from the financial industry and central banks. The threat represented by Libra, the global private currency sponsored by Facebook, as well as other initiatives like JPMorgan Coin (a wholesale currency), certainly contributed to the announcement of several high-profile initiatives from central banks. The ECB published a Report on a digital euro last October and announced that it could be a reality in five years.

This event will discuss the main challenges related to the introduction of a CBDC:
  • CBDC and stable coins, what is the difference?
  • What kind of CBDC are we talking about: wholesale and retail CBDC?
  • What are the use cases?
  • What are the expected benefits?
  • Will China be the first major country to issue a CBDC?
Join us to hear the insights from Hubert de Vauplane, partner at Kramer Levin and expert in Fintech, blockchain and cryptocurrencies.

This event will be held in French.
