In 2017, the winning local teams had the opportunity to move on to the regional competition in Seattle, Wa., in April 2017 and potentially, the global competition in Prague, Czech Republic in April 2017 as well.

Congratulations to University of CT, Storrs Team 2 for winning the 2017 Hartford Research Challenge finals competition on March 8, 2017!

The team members are as follows:

Taylor VanFleet - Student

Sean Elliott - Student

Frank Bazzano - Student

Austin Custodio - Student

Michael Morabito – Student

Chris Wilkos  - Faculty Advisor

Leslie White - Mentor

I believe those in the audience share my sentiment that each of the three teams competing in the Finals did a fantastic job with their presentations!!!  Nine teams competed this year with eight submitting written reports, so even though not all were invited to the finals, a lot of time, effort and dedication was put forth by everyone who competed.  View video of the Finals competition below.

I want to thank all of those who volunteered and participated in this year's Research Challenge.  It takes dedication from a large number of people to make this program a success:  Faculty Advisors, Mentors, Graders, Judges, CFA Institute support staff, Event Volunteers, and most importantly, the Students.  In addition, many thanks to People's United Financial, Inc. (and Investor Relations Director, Andrew Hersom in particular) for agreeing to be our target company this year.  Combined, literally thousands of hours of time and effort have been poured into this process which started back in August.

On behalf of the CFA Society Hartford Board, thanks again to everyone who helped to make this program a success and know that what you do is positively impacting the lives of some of our future finance professionals!

Also, best of luck to our University of Connecticut team as they go to Seattle next month to compete in the Regional (and hopefully Global) competition!
