Finding Value in Value Investing
In this talk, I first review the recent investment performance of value investing strategies. I then discuss what we know about the differing financial profiles of value stocks compared to growth stocks, including potential risk factors. I conclude with an overview of various proposed techniques to improve on the traditional value investing strategies, such as developing new measures for the concept of value, and ways to identify winners and losers within value stocks.
Dr. Bala Dharan
Dr. Bala Dharan is the J. Howard Creekmore Professor Emeritus of Accounting at Rice University's Jones School of Business. He is currently a Managing Director at Berkeley Research Group, where he provides business and litigation consulting, and a visiting professor at both Harvard Law School and MIT Sloan School of Management. He is a co-author of four books covering financial accounting and finance topics. He has been invited three times by the United States Congress to testify on accounting and disclosure issues.
Dr. Dharan has served as a consultant on several dozen business consulting engagements. His consulting covers a variety of industries, including energy, utility, technology, healthcare and banking. He has served more than 25 times as a testifying expert in litigation and arbitration matters.
Dr. Dharan has an MS and a Ph.D. in business administration from Carnegie Mellon University. He is a CPA with credentials for business valuation and financial forensics.
