FTSE Russell Investment & Asset Allocation Outlook
Alec Young's presentation will cover the macroeconomic outlook including updates on global economic growth and inflation trends. He will also update domestic and global financial conditions including Fed and ECB monetary policy insights. Alec will then share the latest US and international earnings and valuation trends at both the regional and sec tor levels. Lastly, Alec will explain the actionable asset allocation implications of this analysis across equity size, style, factors, regions and sectors, as well as fixed income and alternatives.

Alec Young joined FTSE Russell in August 2017 as Managing Director of Global Markets Research. He is responsible for enhancing client engagement through the formulation and communication of global macroeconomic and asset allocation insights and solutions. In his role, Alec focuses on showcasing the utility of FTSE Russell indexes within the context of broader capital market and asset allocation activity.
Prior to joining FTSE Russell, Alec spent 11 years working in senior, client and media facing investment strategy roles at both S&P Global, where he served as their Global Equity Strategist, and most recently Oppenheimer Funds, where he served as a Vice President & Investment Strategist.
Alec is regularly quoted in leading financial publications including the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, NY Times, Barron’s, Bloomberg.com, USA Today and ETF Trends, among many others. He has also often appeared on CNBC, Bloomberg TV, PBS, CNN and Reuters, among others.
Alec holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Grinnell College. In 2008 he completed an executive education program on Investment Strategies and Portfolio Management at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton Business School.
Active or Passive- From the Eye of an Index Provider
Much debate surrounds the relative merits and efficacy of active and passive investing. But it's not so much a question of which is right, but rather a question of what purposes they serve. Dr. Barnes's presentation will discuss the pros and cons of passive vs. active and industry trends, such as the importance of index governance, the expanding role of "enhanced passive" investing, and the increased interest in multi-asset indexing.

Mark Barnes is Head of US Research for FTSE Russell Indexes. Dr. Barnes joined FTSE Russell in 2018 and is responsible for applied research and new index development for the United States. In his role in applied research, he is responsible for engaging with clients to explain the FTSE Russell index construction methodology and to work with them to find solutions to their investment problems.
Prior to joining FTSE Russell, Dr. Barnes was a Director and Portfolio Manager within the Multi Asset group at PanAgora Asset Management in Boston. He was responsible for equity strategies within the group including alternative beta, defensive equity and country allocation overlay strategies.
