​​​​​​ Dr. Andrew Berkin, Ph.D

Dr. Andrew L. Berkin joined Bridgeway Capital Management's investment management team in 2013 in the newly created position of Director of Research. Dr. Berkin drives statistical and economic research on financial data to further develop  Bridgeway's investment strategies. He has an extensive technical background in theoretical physics and computer science, and has spent the last 16 years applying his analytical capabilities to a variety of investment management considerations. Prior to joining Bridgeway, Dr. Berkin was co-chief investment officer and director of research for Vericimetry Advisors, LLC. He previously was a senior member and director in the research group at quantitative investment manager First Quadrant.

Dr. Berkin re ceived his B.S. with honors in physics from the California Institute of Technology, and his Ph.D. in general relativity from the University of Texas at Austin. He subsequently was a postdoctoral research fellow in astrophysics at Waseda University in Japan for two years. Dr. Berkin then worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory pursuing research into the visualization and analysis of large scientific data sets. The software that resulted, LinkWinds, was selected as winner of the 1996 NASA Software of the Year Award. He has published numerous articles in taxable investing, as well as scientific visualization and general relativity. Dr. Berkin is on the Editorial Board of the Financial Analysts Journal and teaches a Level III review course for CFALA.

Sharon Carson, MBA, RMA, CRPC

 Sharon Carson, vice president, is a Retirement Strategist on J.P. Morgan Funds Individual Retirement team.  Sharon is responsible for developing and delivering personal retirement-related insights to financial advisors.  She has a successful track record of synthesizing complex topics including Social Security, healthcare and retirement income investment strategies.  Sharon's unique perspective enables financial advisors to have more effective conversations with their clients who are transitioning to and living in retirement.

She has over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, with a focus on retirement during the past 10 years in various roles spanning strategic planning, innovation, and program management. 


Prior to joining J.P. Morgan in 2012, Sharon developed retirement income and retiree healthcare expense planning insights for financial advisors and their clients at Merrill Lynch.  Sharon received a B.A. from Bowling Green State University an M.B.A. from Columbia University. She received the Retirement Management Analyst (RMA) designation in its inaugural year, she has the Certified Retirement Plan Counselor designation (CRPC), and maintains the FINRA Series 7 and 63 licenses.

Michael E. Kitces, MSFS, MTAX, CFP®, CLU, ChFC, RHU, REBC, CASL, is a partner and the Director of Research for Pinnacle Advisory Group, a private wealth management firm located in Columbia, Maryland that oversees approximately $1.3 billion of client assets. In addition, he is a co-founder of the XY Planning Network, the practitioner editor of the Journal of Financial Planning, and the publisher of the e-newsletter The Kitces Report and the popular financial planning industry blog Nerd's Eye View through his website, dedicated to advancing knowledge in financial planning.

Beyond his website, Michael is an active writer and editor across the industry and has been featured in publications including Financial Planning, the Journal of Financial Planning, Journal of Retirement Planning, Practical Tax Strategies, and Leimberg Information Services, as well as The Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, CNBC PowerLunch, NBC Nightly News, and more. In addition, Michael has co-authored numerous books, including "The Annuity Advisor" with John Olsen (now in 3rd edition), the first balanced and objective book on annuities written for attorneys, accountants, and financial planners, and "Tools & Techniques of Retirement Income Planning"

Michael is one of the 2010 recipients of the Financial Planning Association's "Heart of Financial Planning" awards for his dedication to advancing the financial planning profession. In addition, he has variously been recognized as financial planning's "Deep Thinker," a "Legacy Builder," an "Influencer," a "Mover & Shaker," part of the "Power 20," and a "Rising Star in Wealth Management" by industry publications. These awards were presented to honor Michael's active work in the financial planning community, which currently includes serving as a member of the Editorial Review Board for the Journal of Financial Planning, national chair of the Financial Planning Section for the Society of Financial Services Professionals, and numerous other boards and committees for the Financial Planning Association and the Society of Financial Services Professionals at the local and National levels. Michael is also a co-founder of NexGen, a community of the next generation of financial planners that aims to ensure the transference of wisdom, tradition, and integrity, from the pioneers of financial planning to the next generation of the profession.

James G. Jones, CFA, CLU, ChFC, MBA


Mr. James G. Jones, CFA, CLU, ChFC, MBA founded Sterling Investment Advisors, LLC in 1995 and serves as its President. Mr. Jones was employed at Metlife and gained extensive experience in insurance, estate, and retirement planning. During that tenure, he earned the Chartered Life Underwritter (CLU) and the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) professional designations. Mr. Jones joined Southwest Baptist University (SBU) in 1992 as an Instructor of Business Administration. ... He taught a variety of Economics and Finance classes. Constantly pursuing professional development, Mr. Jones earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. In 1999, he received the Orien B. Hendrex Distinguished Teacher Award. Mr. Jones serves as a Member of the Board of Governors at CFA Institute. Areas of service include grading, the Council of Examiners, the 2006 Practice Analysis Task Force, and the 2007 Continuing Education Task Force. In recognition of his service, the CFA Institute awarded him the C. Stewart Sheppard award at the 2008 CFA Annual conference in Vancouver, BC.

Tim Maurer, CFP® is an advisor, speaker and author.  He is Director of Personal Finance for the BAM ALLIANCE,a collective of over 140 independent advisory firms with common values and goals.  Tim's second book, co-‐authoredwith best-‐selling author, Jim Stovall, is published by John Wiley & Sons under the title  The Ultimate Financial Plan: Balancing Your Money and Life.  He is a  CNBC contributor and also writes weekly for and  TIME/Money.
