 CFA Program Partners

CFA Institute has partnerships with a limited number of globally diverse, select institutions that cover a significant portion of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge, including the ethical and professional standards, in their degree programs.

Trinity College Dublin were the first Irish Institution to become a Program Partner of the CFA Institute in January 2008, with the Undergraduate Degree Bachelor in Business Studies Degree (BBS). The BBS has been running since the 1970's. It is a four year 240 ECTS credit degree. A unique element is that students enter into a common first year where they study economics, politics, quantitative methods, management and sociology. Specialisation occurs in second year. Students who specialise in the finance stream of the BBS study investments, corporate finance, financial markets, derivatives, financial asset valuation, and a range of accounting and financial statements courses. Students can avail of a wide range of international placements, and benefit from a vibrant alumni network. More details on the BBS and the School are at

University College Dublin became Program Partner of the CFA Institute in March 2008 with the Postgraduate course, MSC in Finance. The MSC in Finance is one of UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School’s premier specialist masters degree programmes.  It is Ireland’s oldest finance masters degree, conferring its first graduates in 1971.  Typical careers of graduates of the MSC in Finance include investment analysis, corporate finance, investment banking, fund management and related financial services areas.  CFA Institute Research Challenge 2016/17

Queens University Belfast is the current holder of the CFA Society Ireland Global Investment Research Challenge. They competed against University College Cork, University College Dublin,Trinity Student Managed Fund from Trinity College Dublin and National University of Galway

The Global Investment Research Challenge is an educational initiative to promote best practices in equity research through hands-on mentoring and intensive training in company analysis and presentation skills.

Each team taking part in the Challenge gets a unique hands-on opportunity to learn stock research and analysis skills from industry experts and to compete with peers from the world’s top finance programmes. The Irish teams are mentored by both industry and academic professionals and were helped in researching and analysing a local company and to prepare a research report as if they were practicing analysts. Those research reports were then submitted to a panel of high-profile judges who also hear oral submissions on the students’ conclusions.

The subject company for the 2016 / 2017 competition was Hibernia REIT
