- Investment Professional of the Future (https://futureprofessional.cfainstitute.org/)
CFA Institute has recently concluded and launched the Investment Professional of the Future report. The report authored by Larry Cao, Rebecca Fender, Bob Stammers and Roger Urwin draws from a global survey of members and candidates and inputs from industry roundtables organized around the world and considers how investment industry roles, skills and careers and the organizational context are shaping the investment professional of the future.
Larry's talk will focus on the following issues covered in the report
- How are advances in technology affecting the roles and skills required in investment management?
- How is the current FinTech development different and what is the best way for investment professionals to respond?
- What unique opportunities are we seeing in the Asia Pacific region and, in particular, China and India?
- AI Pioneers in Investment Management: How are they using the latest AI and big data techniques to solve core investment problems?
CFA Institute will launch the AI Pioneers in Investment Management report in October 2019. The report seeks to identify high impact applications of AI and big data in investments and best practice in their implementation. Based on a global survey CFA Institute in early 2019 and about 40 interviews with practitioners in the spring and summer of 2019, we address the following issues in the report
· What AI and big data techniques have been the most helpful in enhancing the investment process?
· What are the hurdles that prevent the industry from adopting AI and big data techniques more broadly?
· What are some of the best practices in organizational and operational approaches in making change happen?
We also selected 11 cases from the interviews as illustrations of the trends discussed above. The case contributors come from all three regions (Americas, APAC and EMEA), four business lines (stocks, bonds, asset allocation and hedge funds), and firms of various sizes and at different levels of sophistication in using AI and big data. There is one thing in common, all teams discussed in the cases are using AI and big data in live production mode to enhance their core investment processes. All teams described in the cases also shared their organizational approaches to making the changes happen.
