Robert Schlesinger is managing editor for Opinion at U.S. News & World Report, where he writes a regular column and also contributes to the Thomas Jefferson Street politics blog. He is the author of "White House Ghosts: Presidents and Their Speechwriters," a narrative history of the role of speechwriters in the modern presidency. Previously he worked in the Washington, D.C. bureau of the Boston Globe and was political editor at The Hill newspaper. His work has also appeared in the Washington Post, Salon, People, George, The Weekly Standard, The American Conservative and Campaigns & Elections. A native New Yorker, he currently resides in Alexandria, Va. with his wife, their two children and their dog.
