Please join investment managers Jeff Gramm and Dean Riesen for an intriguing discussion about shareholder activism and value investing. Activist investors have made headlines throughout 2017 as they target larger and larger companies worldwide. Gramm and Riesen are experienced investors who have also served as chairmen of publicly traded companies. Gramm's Dear Chairman: Boardroom Battles and the Rise of Shareholder Activism, is the best regarded book on shareholder activism. Riesen was chairman of Minneapolis' own Famous Dave's, which was subject to a succession of activist battles. These two uniquely experienced practitioners will cover the nuances of activism and corporate governance in a fireside chat discussion, followed by Q&A.

Jeff Gramm manages a hedge fund, and teaches value investing at Columbia Business School. His recently published book, Dear Chairman: Boardroom Battles and the Rise of Shareholder Activism was named one of the best books of 2016 by the Financial Times. It has been praised as "a terrific read" by Andrew Ross Sorkin in the New York Times, "a revelation" by the Financial Times, "a grand story" by The Wall Street Journal, and "an engaging and informative book" by The New Yorker. Charles Schwab wrote about Dear Chairman, "It should be required reading for anyone who wants to participate in our great ownership system, as investor or manager."
Dean Riesen is currently the Managing Partner of Redrock Partners, LLC and Chairman of Romano's Macaroni Grill. He also serves on the Board of Advisors of Services Group of America, Inc.-a super-regional food distribution company. He also serves as Chairman of the Tanzania Water Fund, Chairman of the Arizona Free Enterprise Club and a member of the executive committee of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce. He served as Chairman of Governor Doug Ducey's Campaign Policy Planning Committee.
He previously was the Chairman of Famous Dave's of America and Managing Partner of Rimrock Partners, LLC. He spent most of his career at Carlson Holdings, Inc. (parent of Carlson Companies, Carlson Real Estate Company, TGIFriday's, Radisson Hotels, Carlson-Wagonlit Travel) where he served as it's Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (prior roles at Carlson- President & CEO of Carlson Real Estate Company and Vice President of Radisson Group, Inc.). He served as Deputy Director of Governor Tim Pawlenty's Transition Team and Chairman of the Inaugural Committee. Prior to that he was Treasurer of Ramada Hotels International. He has a BSS from Cornell College in Economics & Politics.
