The annual signature event hosted by CFA Society Nebraska and anticipated by its membership is the Value Investing Dinner held each year on the first Thursday of May in Omaha, Nebraska. The audience is an eclectic mix of local CFA Nebraska members, business leaders, University students and out-of-town guests attending Berkshire Hathaway’s Annual Meeting. Organizers of this prominent event target an intimate audience in the range of 150 to 200 attendees to allow for informal conversation and networking.
CFA Society Nebraska is excited to introduce two distinguished speakers, Mr. Beini Zhou with Mathews Asia and Mr. Robert Hagstrom of EquityCompass Strategies as the keynote presenters at the 2019 Value Investing Dinner. Mr. Zhou’s presentation is titled, “What Would Warren Buy in Asia?”, and Mr. Hagstrom will be providing further insights into the investing prowess of Warren Buffett, through passages of his many books, including the best-selling The Warren Buffet Way.
Beini Zhou is a Portfolio Manager at Matthews Asia and manages the firm’s Asia Value Strategy, and co-manages the Asia Small Companies Strategy. Prior to joining Matthews Asia in 2013, he was a Research Analyst with Artisan Partners on the Global Value Team, responsible for covering pan-Asia stocks across all industries. Before joining Artisan in 2005, Beini spent three years as a senior product analyst at Oracle Corp. He received an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley and a B.A. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard College. He is fluent in Mandarin. Beini has been a Portfolio Manager of the Matthews Asia Value Fund since its inception in 2015 and of the Matthews Asia Small Companies Fund since 2014.
Robert G. Hagstrom, CFA is a Portfolio Manager for EquityCompass Strategies, a Stifel Financial Corp subsidiary and author on numerous books about Warren Buffett. Mr. Hagstrom joined EquityCompass as a Senior Portfolio Manager in April 2014 and launched the Global Leaders Portfolio in July 2014. In addition, Mr. Hagstrom serves as Chairman of the Investment Management Committee for Stifel Asset Management. Prior to joining EquityCompass, he was the Chief Investment Strategist of Legg Mason Investment Counsel, and before that, he spent 14 years as the Portfolio Manager of the Growth Equity Strategy at Legg Mason Capital Management, where he managed over $7 billion in assets. Mr. Hagstrom was the recipient of “Honorable Mention” as Morningstar’s U.S. Equity Manager of the Year in 2007.
