On April 18th, 2018 we welcome you to join us in celebrating the merger between CFA Society Netherlands and VBA beleggingsprofessionals at our Kick-off Conference 2018 with key-notes from Merel van Vroonhoven and Joris Luyendijk. Paul Smith, CEO of CFA Institute will help us inaugurate the new society and we will unveil our new brand identity. Cake and champagne are an essential part of the celebration. However the real goal of this day is to reveal our added value as a professional body for the financial sector.
As a merged society our mission is to lead the investment profession in the Netherlands by setting the highest standards of ethics, education and professional excellence. How we intend to make good on this mission will become evident on April 18th.
The Kick-off Conference 2018 will jump-start our initiative by uniting not only our members, but also our stakeholders and all investment professionals in the Netherlands under one roof to provide a forum for discussion, continuing education, career development and networking; the key deliverables of the society to our members.
We are all aware of the many changes and challenges facing us in the industry. Structurally low returns, a stricter regulatory landscape, Fintech, multiple communications platforms, data security and Brexit are all systemic changes affecting the industry. But are we, as industry insiders, equipped to deal with these changes?
Throughout the day several high profile speakers, moderated by Fieke van der Lecq, professor of Pension Markets at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, will address these systemic issues and prepare us for the changes to come. There will be ample time during Q&A and breaks to share views and discuss new developments with fellow investment professionals.
Key-notes, panel discussions and break-out sessions will provide indispensable content required to function in this new era of regulation and technology and prepare you for the next phase in the market cycle, all while will fast-tracking your continuing education needs.
We are very pleased to host Merel van Vroonhoven, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM), who will guide us through the role of regulation in Dutch financial markets. For a European perspective on regulation Marco Lamandini, professor of Commercial Law at University of Bologna and member of the Board of Appeal of the European System of Financial Supervisors, will join her in a panel headed by Josina Kamerling, Head of Regulatory Outreach for the CFA Institute.
Diverse break-out sessions by Pieter Kiveron, Pensions Lead at KPMG, and Joris Juttman, expert Digital Labour at KPMG, and others will introduce new insights into financial robotics, and creative solutions to financial communication, and how we as investment professionals can adapt our expectations and behavior in light of these developments.
After lunch we will present the new society, our new brand identity, and demonstrate the new member app, designed to help you download content and manage and record your continuing education activities and points.
Guy Verbene, Senior Macro Strategist at PGGM, will then share his optimistic (or not) view on current macroeconomic developments, followed by Joris Luyendijk, journalist and author, who will look at finance, and Brexit in particular, from his typical anthropological perspective.
