Annual Dinner 2019: Will china become the next financial superpower?

Event Description

CFA Society VBA Netherlands is proud to present:

ANNUAL DINNER 2019
Enigma or engine:

Will china become the next superpower?

2018 was an important year for the world's ‘next financial superpower’: China. Over recent years financial markets in China have been slowly opening up to both local and foreign investors. The inclusion in the MSCI Emerging Markets Index in May 2018 was an important milestone in this journey. Reducing the number of sectors restricted for foreign investors illustrates how China is going against the protectionist momentum seen globally. Facing difficult trade relations with the US, China is realizing that they can benefit from a more open economy.  Starting April 2019 Chinese bonds will also be included in the global bond indices.  Once all conditions are met, the world's third-largest bond market is expected to attract further international investments leading to even more impact on global markets.  Are we ready for this whole new universe?

Expertly moderated by Guy Verberne, Chief Economist at PGGM Investments, the CFA Society VBA Netherlands Annual Dinner 2019 will give you a head start for investing in the next financial superpower.

Insider Dr. Linda Yueh, economist, professor, broadcaster and author, will focus on the drivers of the Chinese economy, how it came to be and where it will head.

Next we welcome Michael Every, Head of Financial Markets Research, Asia-Pacific at Rabobank, who after nearly 20 years covering the Asia-Pacific region, will take a skeptical dive into the opaque waters of Chinese markets and how best to approach them, particularly in terms of where the risks lie relative to rewards. In short 买者自负 – caveat emptor.

Over dinner you are invited  to discuss your views on these topics with over 200 like-minded investment professionals while enjoying the excellent food and elegant atmosphere of the Hotel Okura in Amsterdam.

Everyone is welcome.  Registration is required.  Fees include a 3-course dinner and drinks.
