Annual Dinner 2015

House of Money

The (un)intended consequences of unorthodox monetary policies

2015 promises to be an exciting year for central bank activity. After years of expanding its balance sheet, the Fed is likely to start turning off the liquidity tap. At the same time, Mario Draghi is looking for increasingly unorthodox measure to get the European economy back into gear, with even the purchase of government bonds now on the table. Given the indebtedness of most developed markets’ governments, Central Banks are increasingly seen as the last entities able to prevent a deep global crisis. With this expanded role comes a lot of uncertainty: does quantitative easing result in massive inflation down the line? Is there enough solidarity in Europe to allow the ECB to fulfil its promise to “do everything it takes” to save the Eurozone? What are the consequences of central banks pursuing opposing monetary policies in such an interconnected world? During this year’s annual dinner the current state of monetary policies and the future of Central Banks will be discussed by Mr. Nout Wellink, former president of the Dutch Central Bank, Mr. Marcel Fratzscher, head of German think tank DIW Berlin and Mr. Michael Metcalfe, head of global strategy of leading asset management firm State Street.  This is an event you do not want to miss!

The CFA Society Netherlands Annual Dinner provides attendees with the opportunity for investment insight, reflection and generating interesting conversations among a diverse group of finance professionals and peers in an elite environment.
