Merger update: CFA Society Netherlands with VBA beleggingsprofessionals

VBA beleggingsprofessionals and CFA Society Netherlands announce intention to merge:
Amsterdam, September 19, 2017 - The boards of CFA Society Netherlands and VBA investment professionals announce that they have been granted permission to proceed with the merger of the two associations. Members were extensively informed and heard of the joint research which showed how the merger could best be achieved. The associations have almost identical objectives and believe that they can deliver more added value to members by merging the organisations. At the same time, the merged association wants to play a greater role in discussions about the future of the financial sector, with particular emphasis on asset management.

Dear Members,

As you are aware, the Board of CFA Society Netherlands has been in discussions with VBA beleggingsprofessionals regarding closer cooperation between the two organisations. As the mission, vision and strategy of the two organisations are quite similar and, as you are also well aware, our members work side-by-side in the industry, cooperation makes sense.

Following a period of intense discussions with VBA and CFA Institute - which included a steering committee, working groups, many meetings, and consultations with members and advisors, CFA Society Netherlands and VBA beleggingsprofessionals have concluded that the best way forward is a full merger of the two organisations.

Members of both organisations will benefit in terms of the offering of (continuous) education, courses and events, access to research and journals, increased networking opportunities and career management. Combined, the organisations are better placed to advance their mission of increasing professionalism in the industry and promoting professional conduct and ethics. A member organisation of some 2,300 members will also have a broader audience and a bolder voice when interacting with policy makers, regulators, industry associations and employers.

Both organisations need approval from their members and CFA Institute will need to provide its formal approval and support. In September 2017 both CFA Society Netherlands and VBA beleggingsprofessionals will hold General Meetings for members to vote on the proposal.

We are optimistic that members of both organisations agree with the rationale for and benefits of the merger. But we also realise that transparency and communication are key to getting members on board with the proposed merger.

On this website you will find all documentation and regular updates that will enable you to form your opinion about the merger before the AGM in September.

Until that time we welcome your questions and feedback by sending an email to: terri.thompson@cfanetherlands.nl.
