Title

Sustainable Investing Thought leadership Group Monthly Meeting: Sustainable Debt: Trends and Developments

Event Description

This month we will feature a discussion on how asset owners and money management organizations are using sustainable debt in their portfolio constructions. Investor interest in green bonds remains high, as highlighted by the $269.5 billion green bonds issued in 2020.

Even with this growth, green bonds were overtaken by a growing number of sustainable debt categories, including social bonds, sustainability bonds, sustainability linked bonds and sustainability-linked loans, blue bonds and transition bonds. In light of recent global developments, it remains to be seen what the ultimate impact of these sustainable debt instruments will be.

Presenting to the group are Amy Hauter, CFA, Portfolio Manager; Head of Sustainable Fixed Income at Brown Advisory, and Joseph Di Carlo, CFA, Senior Financial Analyst at MetLife Investment Management. This session will be moderated by Henry Shilling, CFA, Director of Research at Sustainable Research and Analysis LLC. They will engage in a wide-ranging discussion, followed by a question-and-answer session with the audience.

Amy Hauter, CFA is a partner and head of sustainable fixed income at Brown Advisory. She is a portfolio manager on Brown Advisory's sustainable fixed income strategies which includes their Sustainable Core, Tax-Exempt Sustainable and Sustainable Short Duration composites.

In 2018, Amy received recognition as a Rising Star from Fund Action and Fund Directions for her work in building out Brown Advisory's sustainable fixed income platform. She has held numerous speaking engagements, including the United Nations Sustainable Investing Summit in 2019. Amy joined Brown Advisory in 2012 and previously worked in fixed income client service at Morgan Stanley.

Joseph Di Carlo, CFA is a senior financial analyst at MetLife Investment Management (MIM). Joe is the senior banks analyst for North America, in addition to heading up insurance and HY specialty finance, as well as being responsible for MIM's ESG integration effort in public fixed income. He previously was the senior financial analyst at Logan Circle Partners, before being acquired by MIM in 2017. Prior to his present role, Joe worked on the sell-side at Bank of America Merrill Lynch covering HG insurance. He began his career at CreditSights in 2006 covering both insurance and REITs.

The CFAP Sustainable Investing Thought Leadership Group provides a forum to advance the dialogue regarding the role of sustainable investing in today's capital markets and beyond. In particular, the group directs its attention to furthering an understanding and clarifying the risks and opportunities linked to environmental, social and governance issues.
