Shareholder Advocacy - Aligning your Clients' Values with their Investments

Founded in 1992, Bay Area non-profit As You Sow directly engages corporate CEOs, senior management, and institutional investors to change corporations from the inside out. Their mission is to promote environmental and social corporate responsibility through shareholder advocacy, coalition building, and innovative legal strategies. As shareholder advocates, As You Sow works directly with investors and their advisors.

Natalie Weidemier, CFA, JD, from Baker Street Advisors will lead a discussion with As You Sow's CEO, Andrew Behar, during which he will share ideas on how you might engage your clients in values oriented discussions to align their values with their investments.

Andrew BeharCEO, As You Sow

Andrew Behar is CEO of As You Sow. Founded in 1992, As You Sow is the nation’s leading non-profit practitioner of shareholder advocacy and engagement. Shareholders are a strong, powerful force for creating positive, lasting change in corporate behavior. As You Sow uses that power, to change corporations for good — engaging corporations; educating individual and institutional investors about proxy power; and promoting alignment of investments with values.

Mr. Behar has 30 years of experience as a Senior Executive and strategist in the cleantech, communications, and life science sectors. Prior to joining As You Sow, he founded and was CEO of a start-up developing innovative fuel cell technologies. Mr. Behar served as COO for a social media agency focused on sustainability and has been a strategic consultant in the nonprofit sector. He is a member of the board of US Social Investing Forum (US-SIF) and is a member of the UN Sustainable Stock Exchange Green Finance Advisory Group. Mr. Behar's book, The Shareholders Action Guide: Unleash Your Hidden Powers to Hold Corporations Accountable was published in November 2016 by Berrett-Koehler.
