Could non-transparent active ETFs replace mutual funds? Major asset management firms are launching and licensing such ETFs and many are expected to be clones of existing mutual funds. Ed Rosenberg will discuss how non-transparent active ETFs work, why they were developed, and whether they really are non-transparent. Semi- or non-transparent active ETFs, as they have been termed, are ETFs that report actual holdings less frequently than daily and instead report a form of a proxy portfolio that may have different holdings, different securities, or be lagged compared to the actual portfolio. Ed will joined by his colleagues listed below.

Ed Rosenberg is senior vice president and head of exchange traded funds for American Century Investments. Prior to joining American Century Investments in 2017, Ed was a senior vice president and head of ETF capital markets and analytics at Northern Trust's FlexShares. Previously, he was director and head of capital markets and analytics at Russell Investments. Ed holds a BA in business administration from Muhlenberg College, and an MBA from Penn State.
Sean Walker is a vice president for American Century Investments responsible for the coverage of ETFs for the Northeast and South, and the education, implementation and sales of ETFs. Prior to joining American Century Investments in 2017, he was responsible for the private client group in Florida and the Caribbean for BlackRock iShares. Prior to that, he held positions at Northern Trust FlexShares, Russell Investment Group and JP Morgan Institutional. Sean holds a BA from Florida State University and an MBA from the University of Miami, Florida.
Mario Davila is a vice president for American Century Investments and part of the Financial Professional Sales team dedicated to advisor relationships in TX, NM, and LA. Prior to joining American Century Investments, Mario worked with Chartwell Investment Partners. Mario also worked for Axio Financial and Advisors Asset Management in Texas and New York. Mario graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BA in government.
Rene Casis is a portfolio manager for American Century Investments. Before joining American Century Investments, Rene was partner and head of trading with 55 Institutional LLC. Before that Rene served as an investment strategist and portfolio manager for iShares at BlackRock. Rene holds a BA in economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
