 Member Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education/work/experience
  • Passing score on CFA Level I exam or the self-administered Standards of Practice Exam
  • 48 months of professional work experience in investment decision-making
  • Submission of a Member’s Agreement and a Professional Conduct Statement to CFA Institute
  • 3 professional references (or 2 if one is a regular member of the society in which you are applying to)​

Retired Member Requirements


  • Be an active CFA Institute member for at least 5 years
  • To ensure members receive the 70+ age benefit, members are encouraged to update their CFA Institute profile with the correct date of birth.​​​

 Affiliate Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education/work/experience
  • 12 months of relevant work experience
  • Fulfill such other requirements as the Society may impose consistent with requirements established by CFA Institute
  • Be accepted by CFA Institute as an Affiliate Member
  • Submission of the CFA Institute Member's Agreement, the CFA Institute Professional Conduct Statement, and any additional documentation requested by CFA Institute
  • 3 professional references (or 2 if one is a regular member of the society in which you are applying to)​​​

 Student Requirements


  • Full-time undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a discipline related to the investment decision-making process​
  • Full-or-part-time graduate student pursuing an MBA, Ph.D. or master's degree in a business-related major (*Note: part-time students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester)
  • Student must have and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and be in good standing in their school's academic program
  • Student's application must be submitted with a reference letter from a Professor of Finance, Business or Economics OR a regular CFA Institute member​​
