This year we combined the CEO/CIO Summit and the Spring Social. We brought together over 30 local senior executives to discuss key issues facing the asset and wealth management industry. The primary topic was focused on opportunities for local impact investing: how can investors help promote sustainability, affordable housing, and community development while earning a return? We invited a panel to help lead the discussion, featuring Toby Levey, the VP of Real Estate Transactions at Forterra, Jim Bromley, the CFO at Forterra (previously CFO of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation), and Paul Bouchey, the CIO at Parametric. After the presentation, we opened the room up to include the Spring Social event, where the broader membership could meet and socialize with Seattle’s senior investment leaders.

The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual global competition that provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis. Student teams work to research and analyze a publicly traded company; write a research report highlighted by a buy, sell, or hold recommendation; and then present and defend their findings to a panel of industry experts.

Beginning in October of each year, CFA Society Seattle collaborates with students and faculty leadership at universities throughout the state of Washington to educate them further about the competition and meet their local industry mentor, one of whom is paired with each team.  In addition to gathering publicly available data to form the basis of their recommendation, the teams meet the subject company management to learn about the company's strategy. Following this meeting, students worked with their faculty advisors and industry mentors to finalize and submit their January report. The final in-person presentations are made in February with the best and brightest team advancing to the America's Regional Competition in early Spring.

Student students spend 100 to 150 hours researching their assigned company and assembling their report, and more than 30 hours practicing their presentation.

Get out your clubs for our 10th Annual Golf Outing & Social! CFA Society Seattle returns to the Interbay Golf Center nestled between Puget Sound and two of Seattle's oldest neighborhoods. This 9-hole Links-style executive Par 3 golf course can be challenging yet fun to play. Opened in 1997, the Par 28 course features well-kept greens, manicured fairways, and has even been recognized by Audubon International for its water conservation efforts.

We have something for everyone, and encourage golfers of all levels to take part in the festivities. Organized as a four-person scramble, golfers are allowed to form their own foursomes, and we can help match up golfers in in order to help them get to know fellow investment professionals.

Sponsorship of the golf outing provides the opportunity to showcase your firm's name and to network with fellow Charterholders and local investment industry leaders in a casual setting.

Registration begins at 1:00 p.m. with a 1:45 p.m. shotgun start, and is immediately followed by cocktails, heavy appetizers, and prizes awarded to the first and second place teams as well as the "KP" winner.

A popular activity, there is always a very limited attendance capacity, and we strongly encourage advanced registration!

Each December, CFA Society Seattle hosts an annual Charterholder Recognition Ceremony in conjunction with it's end of year holiday party. This special and well attended evening celebrates our successful candidates, new charterholders, honors milestone anniversaries, providing a not-to-be-missed opportunity for networking and celebrating our profession.
