OFFICERS
 

President
Jessie Bobinski, CFA
Ms. Bobinski joined Dixon Mitchell in 2013 as a Private Client Portfolio Manager, responsible for designing and managing investment portfolios for high net worth individuals, families, foundations, and trusts on a discretionary basis. She became a partner of the firm in 2015 and is a member of its Investment Committee. Ms. Bobinski also takes a leadership role with Dixon Mitchell's team of associate portfolio managers, coordinating training and development, while helping to instill the firm's approach to client service and asset management. 

Ms. Bobinski brings significant experience to her practice, having started her wealth management career in 2000 at Phillips, Hager & North where she spent eight years assisting clients in both a non-discretionary and discretionary capacity. In the five years immediately prior to joining Dixon Mitchell, she managed discretionary investment portfolios for physicians and their families with MD Private Investment Counsel.

Outside of the office, Ms. Bobinski is President and Chair of CFA Society of Vancouver and an active volunteer with Junior Achievement. She is a graduate of the BCIT Financial Management program, a CFA Charterholder, and a Certified Financial Planner (CFP).

Michael Job, CFA
Michael joined Leith Wheeler Investment Counsel in September 2007 after graduating from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. While at Dalhousie, Michael majored in finance and completed co-op placements in equity research and investment banking at a major Canadian bank. At Leith Wheeler, Michael is responsible for managing both private client and not-for-profit institutional accounts. Michael sits on the CFA Society Vancouver Board of Directors and holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

 

Secretary
Elvis Picardo, CFA
Elvis Picardo is a Portfolio Manager at HollisWealth®, a division of Scotia Capital Inc. (HollisWealth). Prior to joining HollisWealth, he was Vice President-Research and a Portfolio Manager at Global Securities Corporation. He brings a global perspective to investment research and portfolio management, obtained through more than two decades of international capital markets experience in diverse disciplines. His experience spans a wide range of asset classes – equities, options, currencies and fixed income. Mr. Picardo received the CFA® charter in 1998. He also holds the Canadian Investment Manager designation, and degrees in engineering and management studies. He is a frequent contributor to a number of leading financial publications, and is an active volunteer and mentor. ​

Claire Cobden, CFA
Ms. Cobden is VP, Treasurer at BlueShore Financial, BC's fourth largest credit union. She is responsible for daily treasury operations and trading, including the recommendation and implementation of asset-liability management strategies relating to liquidity, interest rates, capital, credit and foreign exchange. Prior to joining BlueShore Financial, Ms. Cobden was the Assistant Treasurer for MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates, a global communications and information technology company.  She started her career in Vancouver with KPMG, and spent 8 years in London, England working in investment banking, M&A, corporate finance and securitization. She has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from UBC, and holds both the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Chartered Professional Accountant (CA, CPA) designations.​

 

Past President

Duane Tup Chong, CFA
Mr. Tup Chong is a Partner with KPMG LLP providing audit, accounting and advisory services to clients primarily in the financial services industry.  His clients include chartered banks, credit unions, investment funds and investment dealers.  In addition to his clients, he holds a number of leadership roles within KPMG including the lead human resource manager for his business unit, University Campus Recruiter, and Chair of the firm’s learning committee.  Mr. Tup Chong graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree.  After completing his Chartered Accountant designation with honors in 2006, Duane obtained his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) designation in 2009.  During his spare time, he enjoys travelling and playing sports; most particularly, playing ice hockey in the winter and golfing in the summer.

Graeme Baker, CFA, MSc
Mr. Baker is an institutional portfolio manager at PH&N IM.  Prior to joining PH&N IM in 2010, he worked as an analyst in the investment banking division of a Canadian financial services firm specializing in sustainability, mining and technology sectors. Before that, Mr. Baker supported corporate finance activities including originating and executing public and private financings at another Canadian investment firm. He started in the investment industry in 2005 at a global financial services firm in London, UK, providing analysis in a number of research, trading and sales roles. Mr. Baker is a CFA charterholder and is supporting CFA Society Vancouver's Forecast Dinner Committee.

Mr. Karliychuk is Director of Operations and IT with Dixon Mitchell Investment Counsel Inc., where he heads several functions, including operations, trading, reporting, technology, cybersecurity and business continuity. He is  leading the portfolio administration and investment accounting team along with coordinating work of technology providers and cooperating with president and partners to support technology needs and overall business strategy. He has volunteered with CFA Society Vancouver since 2013 and has been responsible for organizing educational events. Mr. Karliychuk is Chairman of the Programs Committee. Outside of work, he enjoys travelling and exploring different cultures, as well as taking advantage of the many outdoor activities available in British Columbia's diverse terrain. Mr. Karliychuk is a CFA Charterholder.​

Dmitri Kotliarov, CFA
Mr. Kotliarov brings to Travelers Capital over 7 years of renewable energy and project finance experience. Prior to joining Travelers Capital in 2013, he was involved in development and financing of commercial scale wind and hydro generation facilities, as well as electrical transmission systems in the US and Canada with Sea Breeze Power Corp. as Finance Manager. Mr. Kotliarov is a CFA charterholder and is the Membership Chair for CFA  Society Vancouver. As well, he holds a B. Comm from the Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia.


 

Lauren Manteuffel v2.jpgLauren Manteuffel, CFA
Ms. Manteuffel joined the Corix Group of Companies as Vice President, Finance in September 2018. She is responsible for providing financial consulting and strategic advice to senior management and manages the corporate finance team which delivers financial planning and analysis support for Canadian utilities, M&A and prospective contract and concession bids. Prior to her current role, Ms. Manteuffel was a Vice President at a Single Family Office (SFO) where she led equity research with a focus on oil and LNG shipping, generated strategic investment recommendations and oversaw the firm's administrative and finance function. Prior to joining the SFO in 2011, she worked in M&A structuring at Deloitte & Touche in Toronto. Her work was primarily focused on the Canadian Private Equity sector and involved working on due diligence teams, undertaking complex research and creating financial models. She has lectured for CFA exam preparatory programs and on the topics of Financial Modeling and Business Valuation for UBC. Ms. Manteuffel is a CFA charterholder and a Chartered Professional Accountant (CA, CPA).

 

Jordan Trimble Small.jpg Jordan Trimble, CFA
Jordan Trimble is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Skyharbour Resources, a TSX Venture listed uranium exploration and development company. Mr. Trimble holds a Bachelor of Science Degree with a Minor in Commerce from UBC and he is a CFA® charterholder. He has worked in the resource industry in various roles with numerous TSX Venture listed companies specializing in corporate finance and strategy, shareholder communications, marketing, deal structuring and capital raising. He has appeared on BNN several times and has given presentations at numerous resource conferences across North America. Mr. Trimble is also a director of the Face of Today charity which is a charitable organization comprised of young leaders with a mission to empower underprivileged individuals to achieve their life goals and provide a stepping stone for future development in the local community.

Michael Wallberg, CFA
Mr. Wallberg worked as a Canadian equity analyst and institutional portfolio manager during his 11 years with Phillips, Hager & North. He joined PH&N from Merrill Lynch, where he worked as an investment banker and global relationship manager in Calgary and London, UK. Mr. Wallberg graduated from the University of British Columbia with a B.Comm (hons) specializing in Finance in 1998 and received his CFA charter in 2003. He returned to UBC in 2012 to earn his Master of Journalism. He currently works as an award-winning freelance journalist and producer for CBC, as well as a content marketer for a banking software provider.


Tim Wilkinson Small.pngTim Wilkinson, CFA
Mr. Wilkinson is a Senior Analyst/Trader and a Principal at Connor Clark and Lunn Investment Management Ltd.  He works on the fixed income team spending the majority of his time on trade execution and risk management. Prior to his current role at the firm, he spent a number of years as a senior analyst on the business analytics team within the Connor Clark and Lunn Financial Group.  He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Victoria and became a CFA Charterholder in 2007.
 


COMMITTEE CHAIRS 

Candidates
Chair:  Sophie Que Ngo, CFA
The Candidates Development Committee organizes programs and activities, which help CFA Program candidates and potential candidates address topics on the CFA Program, career development, career management, and career transition during and after the completion of the Program.  The Committee also coordinates and administers the CFA Exam Scholarships twice per year, organizes information sessions at local post-secondary institutions, and offers the Boston Mock Exam to candidates.

Forecast Dinner
Chair:  Graeme Baker, CFA
The Major Events Committee organizes two high profile events each year, which include the Forecast Dinner in January and the CFA Day Networking Luncheon in June. The annual Forecast Dinner is considered one of CFA Society Vancouver's most prominent events.  The dinner provides members and their clients with the opportunity to hear relevant unbiased forecasts of future market expectations. The CFA Day Networking Luncheon is a cross-designation event, which brings together members from a variety of organizations including CGA Association of BC, TMAC BC, Chartered Accountants of BC and CICBV.

Programs

The purpose of the Programs Committee is to provide educational programs that fit the mandate and strategy of CFA Society Vancouver, (e.g. professional development, networking, client relations, etc.), as well as the requirements of CFA Institute.  The objective is to ensure quality programming is available for the CFA Society Vancouver membership, clients, investors and other professionals.

Public Awareness

The purpose of the Awareness Committee is to enhance awareness of the CFA brand within the Vancouver investment community, including CFA Society Vancouver members, employers, academia, members of other professional organizations, financial and business media contacts, and the general investing public.

Social
Chair:  Matt Levy, CFA
The Social Committee organizes a variety of social events each quarter to foster fellowship amongst CFA members and candidates.  Events include pub nights, martini tasting and a Monte Carlo Night hosted in partnership with the CA Institute of BC and the Canadian Bar Association.

Sponsorship

The goal of the Sponsorship Committee is to introduce CFA Society Vancouver to a variety of sponsors that may be interested in partnering with the Society for major events and programs, and supporting our mission to promote best practices and the highest professional and ethical standards in the investment industry.  Sponsorship opportunities include the Forecast Dinner, CFA Day, seminars and workshops, and networking events. 

University Outreach
Co-Chairs: Jeff Mayhew, CFA and William Wong
The University Outreach Committee's goals are to increase awareness of the designation amongst students and to enhance the Society's relationships with local universities and colleges.  This is accomplished through educational seminars and presentations, in addition to participation at various career and education fairs.  The Committee is also mandated to provide opportunities for students to become involved with CFA Society Vancouver, as well as the local Financial community.
