POSTPONED - Emerging Markets Investment Outlook

Event Description

Emerging Markets Investment Outlook:
New Challenges to Development

Emerging Markets.jpg

The emerging markets equity universe has greatly underperformed developed markets over the last decade despite higher volatility and risk. Many forces are challenging the development of these countries that didn’t exist ten years ago, such as environmental concerns, human rights activists, and commodity price deflation. While the past decade was very tough for equity investors, emerging market debt performed better on a relative basis.

At a time when spreads between US investment grades and emerging markets investment grades have tightened across the board and rates are at record lows, the attractiveness of emerging market debt moving forward comes into question. What side of the capitalization spectrum does it make the most sense to access emerging markets?  What is driving the potential for emerging market returns in both equities and fixed income and where do they fit in a diversified portfolio?

Learning Objectives:
  1. Learn about changes in return drivers for EM debt and equity
  2. Investigate how others are incorporating these sub-asset classes into their overall investment methodology
