Top Universities to Compete in the Local CFA Institute Research Challenge hosted by CFA Society Bulgaria

Students from top universities compete for a chance to advance to the next level of the world’s leading investment research competition

The CFA Institute Research Challenge is a great test for all students who are bold enough to face it. But, like any great challenge, the opportunities and rewards it provides are even greater. We invite you to come take part. The Research Challenge is an annual initiative that helps university students learn best practices in equity research and how to apply them to real-world scenarios. Student teams research and analyze a designated publicly traded company, then prepare a written report that includes a buy, sell, or hold recommendation.

This year, CFA Society Bulgaria will be hosting student teams from the following local universities, which will compete against one another on 23 February 2024 in Sofia for the chance to advance to the regional round:

University of Economics Varna - Team Alpha Analysts

Varna Free University - Team Beta Researchers

American University in Bulgaria - Team Delta Investment Mavericks

American University in Bulgaria - Team Sigma Capital Explorers

Sofia University - Team Omega Portfolio Pioneers

Each university team consisting of three to five students, will present their analysis and buy/sell/hold recommendations on Sopharma Bulgaria AD to a panel of distinguished judges from the investment community. Their presentation is the culmination of months of research, interviews with company management, competitors, and clients, as well as presentation training, under the supervision of their faculty advisor and a dedicated industry mentor. The winning team will advance to the Regional competition.

About the CFA Institute Research Challenge
The CFA Institute Research Challenge gathers students, investment industry professionals, publicly traded companies, and corporate sponsors together locally, regionally, and globally for an annual competition. In order to promote best practices in equity research and company analysis, students research, analyze, and report on a company as if they are practicing analysts. Local CFA member societies and other affiliated groups host local level competitions of the Research Challenge in conjunction with the participating universities. The universities assemble teams of three to five business and finance students who work directly with a company in researching and preparing a company analysis. The team’s final presentations are locally evaluated by high-profile panels of heads of research, portfolio managers, and chief investment officers from the world’s top firms. The local champions advance to regional competitions for the Americas, Asia Pacific, and Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) and then to the Global Final, which will be held in New York City on April 22nd. Additional information on the Research Challenge is available on the CFA Institute website, www.cfainstitute.org/researchchallenge.
