Overview
During this webinar, Mr. Masamichi Adachi, Japan Chief Economist at UBS, will present his views on Japan’s economy, which is now facing great opportunity to see secular change in three fronts: inflation dynamics, continued recovery amid incoming US recession, and BoJ’s policy. Japanese economy may be able to escape from so called “deflation equilibrium” with positive feedback between wage growth and inflation, which implies the recovery in price mechanism in the economy. Of course, this benign outlook is not certain with elevated risks in global economy, especially in the US with sticky inflation and banking turmoil. But the possibility that Japan is back to normal economy with decent 2-3% nominal GDP growth from less than 1% in last three decades attracts high interest to Japan from many international investors.
We thus believe that this is a good timing to discuss the economic and policy outlook with the renowned economist.

Speaker Bio
Masamichi (Masa) Adachi joined UBS Global Research in October 2019 as Chief Economist for Japan. He started his career at the Bank of Japan in 1991, where he mainly analyzed business conditions and conducted financial & economic research in both the Research and Statistics Department and the Financial Markets Department. He was also stationed overseas at the Bank's representative office in Frankfurt, Germany. In 2002 he was seconded to credit rating service Rating and Investment Information, Inc (R&I), where he was involved in rating securitized products. He joined JP Morgan as Senior Economist in October 2006, where he was responsible for researching, analyzing, and providing commentary on the global economy and financial markets, with a primary focus on Japan.
Masa has a Bachelor of Commerce from Keio University (1991) and an MBA from INSEAD (1999). He is a Certified Member Analyst (CMA) of The Securities Analysts Association of Japan (SAAJ).
