MEET OUR LOCAL STUDENTS

It’s time for our Florida Gulf Coast University Lutgert College of Business Student Spotlight! Each month we highlight a current Finance and/or Economics major at FGCU. Our goal is to introduce our local community to the incredible talent we have in SWFL, highlighting the young women who are ready to make a career in the field of Investment Management.

February’s FGCU Student Spotlight is on Ellie Eldridge. Ellie is majoring in Finance with a concentration in Financial Analysis and Management. She is set to graduate in Summer 2023.

Why did you choose Florida Gulf Coast University? Why did you choose your major?
I chose FGCU because of the smaller class sizes, and the fact that it was close to home. I realized I would have an opportunity to have a closer relationship with faculty and students in a school of this size. I also appreciated the environmental friendly atmosphere of the school and campus. I became interested in Finance while taking Dr Huerta’s Business Finance class. I really enjoyed the math and calculations behind the problems, and loved learning about the stock and bond markets. It was a great intro to finance. The problem solving and analysis that finance offers is the best part for me. I was originally a computer info major but switched to Finance after that.

What is/was your favorite class at FGCU?
Business Finance, which I mentioned above, and Financial Management. In both I learned about time value of money, discounted cash flow analysis, intrinsic value and free cash flow. Again the numbers and the math behind it all. Dr. Huerta was the professor for both and I really enjoy his learning style. Right now I’m taking his Financial Policy class.

Where have you interned in your field?
I have not in the field of finance. I am hoping to have a Summer 2023 internship that would hopefully lead to full time employment.

What are your career goals after graduation?
I am very interested in obtaining the CFA certification after graduation, I know it would be beneficial to have. I am sponsored to take the SIE this summer, and upon passing that I plan to start studying for the CFA. I am interested in all aspects of Wealth Management and willing to locate if needed for a full time position.

What clubs and/or organizations are you involved in at FGCU?
I am beginning a position as a Supplementary Instruction Leader for Business Finance at FGCU, with the Center of Academic Achievement. I will hold study sessions for finance students looking for additional help and work alongside the professor. I am also a member of the CFA Society of Naples.

Give us one "Fun Fact" about yourself.
Hard to believe, but I’m only 19 years old. I earned my AA in 2021 in High School. I always strive to do my best and I hope everything will work out great in the end.

Ellie would be interested in future job opportunities in Finance and Wealth Management. She can be reached via email at [email protected] and by phone at 239-258-7837.
