MEET OUR LOCAL STUDENTS

It’s time for our Florida Gulf Coast University Student Spotlight! Our goal is to highlight young women who are ready to make a career in Investment Management.

This month's spotlight is Isabella Arias. Isabella is a Finance major (Financial Services) and a minor in Real Estate. She is set to graduate in May 2023 and is a native of Fort Myers, FL. Isabella is interested in future job opportunities in Wealth Management or Real Estate. She can be reached at [email protected] or 321-402-4383.

Why did you choose FGCU and your major?
I chose FGCU because of my experience as a Dual Enrollment student during high school. I spent 2 years full time at FGCU and was given the opportunity to stay. I really enjoyed studying here and had good scholarship opportunities, so it made a lot of sense. I was a Management Major but after taking a Business Finance class, I realized I loved Finance. The Financial Services track is giving me more insight into personal finance and the opportunity for CFP accreditation. I added Real Estate as a minor because that was always an interest of mine.

What is/was your favorite class at FGCU?
I have two. One that I’m currently taking which is Financial Plan Development Capstone with Dr. Fraser. It's been the most interactive and engaging class and I’m learning a lot about building comprehensive financial plans – putting it all together with what I’ve learned so far. I am also enjoying the Real Estate Investment course, which has been really insightful about the decisions investors have to make when looking at real estate purchases.

Where have you interned in your field?
Last summer I interned with Pulte Group, the national home builder. I was in their finance and closing department, where we helped home buyers through the process of buying a home. I am currently a research intern at Midland Trust Company. I filter through real estate records and gather data to use in promotions. After graduation, I have an internship secured with Moran Wealth Management® where I will be assisting portfolio managers and investment analysts.

What are your career goals after graduation?
I will be pursuing my CFP designation and possibly the CFA. During the summer internship I hope to gain as much experience as I can, which will help to determine my next steps.

What clubs and/or organizations are you involved in at FGCU?
I am currently the Marketing Director for the student led Programming Board which plans fun and enriching events to enhance the student experience at FGCU. I manage the social media platforms, create/distribute flyers and photograph the events. I’m also the Secretary for the Student Trading Optimization Club (or STOC), which is an investing club focused on educating and developing future financial leaders.

Give us one "Fun Fact" about yourself.
I am Colombian and love making, eating and sharing Colombian food. My parents were both born and raised in Colombia, and I’m truly grateful to have them as my support system.
