Types of Membership

You can either become a Regular Member—with qualifying work experience in the investment decision-making process—or an Affiliate Member of CFA Institute. For those who do not meet the eligibility requirements of Regular and Affiliate membership, you can become a Local Member.

Regular Membership (Membership to CFA Institute and CFA Society Stamford)

Who is this for?

Investment professionals directly involved in or supporting the investment decision-making process. Regular membership is a prerequisite to earning the CFA charter and CIPM certificate.

How do I become eligible?

A bachelor's degree or equivalent education/work experience and a passing score for the Level I CFA Exam, CIPM Program Level II Exam, RBA Netherlands Exam, or the self-administered Standards of Practice Exam. 4000 hours work Exp in 36 months, 2-3 References.

How much are annual dues?

$ 275 for CFA Institute Membership + $85.00 for CFA Society Stamford Membership - Society and CFA Institute Membership dues are paid through CFA Institute.

When is the Membership Year?

The membership year spans from 1 July to 30 June. (Annual dues will be pro-rated for those joining CFA Institute and a member society for the first time)

You must submit your application to CFA Institute and specify in your profile that you also wish to be a member of CFA Society Stamford

Affiliate Membership (Membership to CFA Institute and CFA Society Stamford)

Who is this for?
Investment professionals who do not meet the eligibility requirements of regular membership or do not intend to participate in the CFA Program or CIPM Program.

How do I become eligible?
You must meet the eligibility requirements for your selected member society and become a member of that society. CFA Society Stamford requires applicants to submit all documentation as required by CFA Institute when applying for affiliate membership. Affiliate members do not have voting rights in CFA Society Stamford.

How much are annual dues?
$ 275 for CFA Institute Membership + $85.00 for CFA Society Stamford Membership -Society and CFA Institute Membership dues are paid through CFA Institute.

Local Member (Membership to CFA Society Stamford only)
Who is this for?

A Local Membership is offered for those who do not meet the eligibility requirements of Regular and Affiliate membership. Local membership is ideal for students, those in academia and investment professionals who are interested in local networking opportunities.


Benefits & Eligibility Requirements

Local members enjoy the same benefits as Regular and Affiliate members except they do not have access to CFA Institute benefits or the right to vote in the Stamford Society. Program Participants, as part of the application process, will have to sign a statement of intention to abide by the Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct of the CFA Institute.


How much are annual dues?
Local Members pay annual local chapter dues ($85.00), the same as our regular and affiliate members. However, if you are a student, this rate is reduced to $50.00

When is the membership year?
The membership year spans from 1 July to 30 June. (Annual dues are due by July 1 of the membership year and are not pro-rated during the membership year).
