James P. Chisholm, CMA, CFA
President​

Mr. Chisholm joined the Board of CFA Society Calgary in 2013 and currently serves as President. James was previously the Membership Chair and Professional Development Co-Chair.

James leads the private investment counsel and institutional group at ATB Investment Management Inc. providing discretionary investment management and private wealth services to families, trusts, corporations, not for profit entities and government organizations. Prior to ATB, James managed high net worth client relationships across Western Canada as Vice-President and Portfolio Manager for Franklin Templeton's Fiduciary Trust subsidiary.

James graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Commerce, has earned the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation and is a CFA charterholder.

 
Jamie Major, CFA
Vice President

Jamie joined the Board of CFA Society Calgary in July 2014 and currently serves as Vice President. He was previously Programs Chair and Membership Chair. 

Jamie is a Vice President at ARC Financial Corp, a Calgary based private equity firm with $5.3 billion of capital across eight ARC Energy Funds.  His focus includes the origination of new investment opportunities, as well as the monitoring and exit of existing investments.  He works with ARC's portfolio companies on corporate strategy, risk management, and financial matters. Jamie currently represents ARC as a director on the board of Rifle Shot Oil Corp. 

 ​Michael Burnyeat, CA, CFA
Treasurer

Mr. Burnyeat serves as the Society Treasurer and joined the Board of Directors of CFA Society Calgary in 2014.

Michael currently holds the position of Chief Financial Officer at Wayfinder Corp., a privately held company focused on the manufacture and transloading of specialty proppants used in the hydraulic fracturing sector.  
Prior to his current position, he held positions of CFO at Redrock Camps, was the CFO at Black Diamond Group. Previous experience includes senior finance roles in Insurance, Technology and the Oilfield Services sectors.

Michael graduated from the University of Alberta in 1990 with a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Finance).  He is a Chartered Accountant (1992) and a CFA Charterholder (2003).

Barbara Bauer, CFA
Secretary

Barbara joined the Board of the CFA Society Calgary in July 2016 and currently serves as Secretary.

Barbara holds the position of Securities Investigator in the Market Surveillance & Investigation (MSI) Department of the Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) specializing in insider trading and market manipulation.  She has conducted numerous investigations and has been involved in some significant market abuse cases. Barbara works with regulators nationally and internationally including the U.S. SEC, CFTC and FINRA.  She also currently represents Alberta on a Canadian Securities Administrators enforcement committee.  Prior to joining the ASC in 2006, Barbara worked for a major investment dealer.  

Barbara is a CFA Charterholder (2007) and a Certified Fraud Examiner. She holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Victoria.  Barbara was also appointed to CFA Institute's Global Disciplinary Review Committee commencing September 1, 2016.

Director

As Senior Investment Leader for The City of Calgary, Aaron oversees The City's $4 billion investment portfolio as well as its treasury operations which includes banking, cash forecasting, merchant services and investment risk and compliance. Prior to joining The City in 2016, Aaron was the Director of Portfolio Management for Alberta Treasury Board & Finance where he oversaw strategic asset allocation, policy development and legislation for approximately $40 billion in provincial investment assets, most notably the province's sovereign wealth fund, the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund.

Aaron holds a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in International Business from the University of Alberta and became a CFA charterholder in 2003. After seven years on the leadership of CFA Society Edmonton, Aaron was elected by his peers in 2012 to serve four years as Canada's representative to CFA Institute's Presidents Council. In this global senior leadership role Aaron represented the 12 Canadian CFA societies and their over 18,000 charterholders.

Bret Dunwoodie, CFA
Director

Bret Dunwoodie joined the board of the CFA Society Calgary in July of 2016 and currently serves as Co-Chair of the Outreach and Awareness Committee.

Bret currently holds the position of Director at Steady Creek Business Solutions.  Bret works with companies to develop their corporate strategy and financial plans.  He has performed due diligence on acquisitions across a number of different industries and has taken a lead role in the acquisition integration process.  Bret has also led the development and implementation of business processes to enhance operations at a number of different corporations.  

Bret holds a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Alberta, an MBA in Finance from the University of Calgary and he is a CFA charter holder.

Jeremy Gilman, CFA
Director

Jeremy joined the Board of CFA Society Calgary in July 2014 and currently serves as a Director.

Jeremy is the Principal of McRock Capital, a venture capital firm focused exclusively on the Industrial Internet. Jeremy leads the Calgary office of McRock and is responsible for the sourcing and evaluation of new investment opportunities, monitoring existing investments, and broad sector analysis. Prior to joining McRock, Jeremy worked for a leading energy-focused private equity firm based in Calgary. .​

Jeremy holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with Distinction from the University of Calgary with a major in Finance. Jeremy is a CFA charterholder and has completed the Canadian Securities Course.​

Travis Goldfeldt, CFA
Director 

Travis Goldfeldt is an Institutional Portfolio Manager at Mawer Investment Management Ltd., which he joined in 2007. He is responsible for the management and servicing of institutional clients and Separately Managed Accounts programs offered through Mawer’s Institutional Alliances.  
 
Mr. Goldfeldt is also the co-manager of the Mawer Tax Effective Balanced Fund, which employs a tax effective overlay strategy. This strategy works to ensure that clients retain as much of their pre-tax return on an after-tax basis as possible.  
               
Prior to joining Mawer, Mr. Goldfeldt was employed as a Quantitative Analyst with TD Asset Management and as a Trading Assistant with Barclays Capital. At Mawer he has also fulfilled the roles of Business Analyst and Portfolio Management Analyst. 
 
Mr. Goldfeldt graduated with a Bachelor of Mathematics-Dean’s Honour Roll from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor of Business Administration-High Distinction with a Finance Concentration and a minor in Economics from Wilfrid Laurier University.  Mr. Goldfeldt is also a Chartered Financial Analyst Charterholder with investment experience since 2005​.

Linus Lau, CFA
Director

Linus joined the Board in July 2016.

Linus currently holds the position of Manager Finance/Controller at Emergency Response Assistance Canada (ERAC).  ERAC provides emergency response services for LPG and Flammable Liquid spills across Canada.  He is responsible for all of the accounting and finance duties of the organization.  Previous to this, he worked in the Business Development/Mergers & Acquisitions area of Newalta and as a Research Associate at several investment banks.

Linus is a Chartered Accountant (CA), a CFA Charterholder and has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Calgary.

Patrick Read, CFA

Director 

Patrick is a Director, Business Development at Husky Energy.  Prior to his current role with Husky, Patrick held positions as Executive Director at Morgan Stanley and as a manager in the in-house M&A team at BP plc.

Patrick graduated with Distinction from the London School of Economics with an M.Sc. in Accounting and Finance in 2006, and from the University of Western Ontario with a BACS in Finance, Economics and Administration in 2005.  Patrick became a CFA charterholder in 2010.  ​

Past President

Based in Calgary, Daniel Spencer is responsible for the investment counseling and portfolio management needs of ATB's institutional and high-net-worth clients. 

Daniel joined ATB Investment Management Inc. in 2007 and has been in the financial services industry since 2004. His experience is primarily in the area of investment management and consulting. Prior to joining ATB Investment Management Inc., Daniel was a financial advisor with TD Canada Trust. 

Daniel is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder, holds the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation and is a University of Calgary graduate, holding a bachelor's degree in economics. He currently serves as President on the Board of CFA Society Calgary.

Ameel Velji, CFA

Director

Ameel Velji joined the board of the CFA Society Calgary in July of 2017.

Ameel is an Associate at PillarFour Capital, an energy focused private equity and advisory firm focused on advising and investing in small and mid-cap energy companies. Prior to joining PillarFour, Ameel worked for Deloitte & Touche LLP. in their business valuation practice.  

Ameel holds a Bachelors of Commerce degree with Highest Honours from Carleton University and is a CFA charter holder.
