Mr. Burnyeat joined the Board of Directors of CFA Society Calgary in 2014 and currently serves as the President.

Michael currently holds the position of Chief Financial Officer at Wayfinder Corp., a privately held company focused on the manufacture and transloading of specialty proppants used in the hydraulic fracturing sector. Prior to his current position, he held positions of CFO at Redrock Camps and EVP and CFO at Black Diamond Group. Previous experience includes senior finance roles in Insurance, Technology and the Oilfield Services sectors.

Michael graduated from the University of Alberta in 1990 with a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Finance). He is a Chartered Accountant (1992) and a CFA Charterholder (2003).

Vice President

Barbara joined the Board of the CFA Society Calgary in July 2016 and currently serves as Vice President.

Barbara holds the position of Senior Securities Investigator in the Joint Serious Offences Team (JSOT) of the Alberta Securities Commission (ASC). JSOT is the ASC and RCMP partnership initiative combining law enforcement policing skills with the ASC expertise in the capital markets. Barbara has conducted numerous investigations and has been involved in significant market abuse cases. She has worked with regulators and law enforcement nationally and internationally including the U.S. SEC, CFTC and FINRA.  Barbara also currently represents Alberta on a Canadian Securities Administrators enforcement committee. Prior to joining the ASC in 2006, she worked for a major investment dealer.  

Barbara is a CFA Charterholder (2007) and a Certified Fraud Examiner. She holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Victoria. Barbara has also been appointed to her third term on CFA Institute's Global Disciplinary Review Committee.

Patrick is a Director, Business Development at Husky Energy.  Prior to his current role with Husky, Patrick held positions as Executive Director at Morgan Stanley and as a manager in the in-house M&A team at BP plc.

Patrick graduated with Distinction from the London School of Economics with an M.Sc. in Accounting and Finance in 2006, and from the University of Western Ontario with a BACS in Finance, Economics and Administration in 2005. Patrick became a CFA charterholder in 2010.

Jamie joined the Board of CFA Society Calgary in July 2014 and currently serves as Secretary. He was previously Programs Chair and Membership Chair.

Jamie is an executive with 15 years' experience at one of North America's leading energy-focused private equity firms. He has a proven track record working closely with entrepreneurs, management teams and boards on corporate strategy, strategy execution, and risk management across the exploration & production and oilfield service sectors. Jamie graduated from the University of British Columbia, is a CFA charterholder and an independent director on the board of Rifle Shot Oil Corp.

As Senior Investment Leader for The City of Calgary, Aaron oversees The City's $4 billion investment portfolio as well as its treasury operations which includes banking, cash forecasting, merchant services and investment risk and compliance. Prior to joining The City in 2016, Aaron was the Director of Portfolio Management for Alberta Treasury Board & Finance where he oversaw strategic asset allocation, policy development and legislation for approximately $40 billion in provincial investment assets, most notably the province's sovereign wealth fund, the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund.

Aaron holds a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in International Business from the University of Alberta and became a CFA charterholder in 2003. After seven years on the leadership of CFA Society Edmonton, Aaron was elected by his peers in 2012 to serve four years as Canada's representative to CFA Institute's Presidents Council. In this global senior leadership role Aaron represented the 12 Canadian CFA societies and their over 18,000 charterholders.

Bret Dunwoodie joined the board of the CFA Society Calgary in July of 2016 and currently serves as a Director.

Bret currently holds the position of Director at Steady Creek Business Solutions. Bret works with companies to develop their corporate strategy and financial plans. He has performed due diligence on acquisitions across a number of different industries and has taken a lead role in the acquisition integration process. Bret has also led the development and implementation of business processes to enhance operations at a number of different corporations. 

Bret holds a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Alberta, an MBA in Finance from the University of Calgary and he is a CFA charter holder.​

Jeremy joined the Board of CFA Society Calgary in July 2014 and currently serves as a Director.

Most recently, Jeremy worked as the Principal of McRock Capital, a venture capital firm focused on the Industrial Internet. Jeremy started McRock's Calgary office and focused on the origination, structuring, and execution of new investment opportunities. He also worked closely with existing portfolio companies on corporate strategy, risk management, business plan execution, and financial planning. Prior to McRock, Jeremy worked in a similar capacity at a leading energy-focused private equity firm based in Calgary.

Jeremy holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with Distinction from the University of Calgary with a major in Finance. Jeremy is a CFA charterholder and has completed the Canadian Securities Course.​

T. Goldfeldt.PNG​Travis Goldfeldt, CFA

Travis Goldfeldt is an Institutional Portfolio Manager at Mawer Investment Management Ltd., which he joined in 2007. He is responsible for the management and servicing of institutional clients and Separately Managed Accounts programs offered through Mawer’s Institutional Alliances.  
Mr. Goldfeldt is also the co-manager of the Mawer Tax Effective Balanced Fund, which employs a tax effective overlay strategy. This strategy works to ensure that clients retain as much of their pre-tax return on an after-tax basis as possible.  
Prior to joining Mawer, Mr. Goldfeldt was employed as a Quantitative Analyst with TD Asset Management and as a Trading Assistant with Barclays Capital. At Mawer he has also fulfilled the roles of Business Analyst and Portfolio Management Analyst. 
Mr. Goldfeldt graduated with a Bachelor of Mathematics-Dean’s Honour Roll from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor of Business Administration-High Distinction with a Finance Concentration and a minor in Economics from Wilfrid Laurier University. Mr. Goldfeldt is also a Chartered Financial Analyst Charterholder with investment experience since 2005.

Jessica joined the Board of CFA Society Calgary in 2018 and currently serves as a Director.

Jessica is an Associate in Equity Research at Scotiabank. Prior to joining Scotiabank, Jessica was a Senior Accountant within the Assurance Practice at Ernst & Young (EY), where she earned her Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation. Jessica also sits on the Board of Directors of Vertigo Theatre.

Jessica holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in finance (with distinction) from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary and is a CFA charterholder.

Linus joined the Board in July 2016.

Linus currently holds the position of Finance Director at Emergency Response Assistance Canada (ERAC). ERAC provides emergency response services for LPG and Flammable Liquid spills across Canada. He is responsible for all of the accounting and finance duties of the organization. Previous to this, he worked in the Business Development/Mergers & Acquisitions area of Newalta and as a Research Associate at several investment banks.

Linus is a Chartered Accountant (CA), a CFA Charterholder and has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Calgary.

Past President

Based in Calgary, Daniel Spencer is responsible for the investment counseling and portfolio management needs of ATB's institutional and high-net-worth clients.

Daniel joined ATB Investment Management Inc. in 2007 and has been in the financial services industry since 2004. His experience is primarily in the area of investment management and consulting. Prior to joining ATB Investment Management Inc., Daniel was a financial advisor with TD Canada Trust.

Daniel is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder, holds the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation and is a University of Calgary graduate, holding a bachelor's degree in economics. He currently serves as Past President on the Board of CFA Society Calgary.

​Ameel Velji joined the board of the CFA Society Calgary in July of 2017.

Ameel is an Principal at PillarFour Capital, an energy focused private equity and advisory firm focused on advising and investing in small and mid-cap energy companies. Prior to joining PillarFour, Ameel worked for Deloitte & Touche LLP. in their business valuation practice. 

Ameel holds a Bachelors of Commerce degree with Highest Honours from Carleton University and is a CFA charter​holder.

David joined the Board of the CFA Calgary in July 2016 and currently serves as Director.

David is currently a Director with BMO Capital Markets on their Energy Investment Banking team. Prior to joining BMO in 2011, David held similar roles in both investment banking and equity research since 2005. Prior to 2005, David worked as an engineer with General Dynamics Canada.

David holds an MBA from the University of Calgary and a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alberta.  He is a registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Alberta and is a CFA Charterholder.
