​Patricia Kiwanuka, CFA
President CFA Society East Africa

Patricia is the Managing Director and Founder of Revenu Stream Limited established in 2017.  The firm is built on the expertise and experience gained as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), holding over 20 years of experience in fund management, stockbroking, property, insurance, and pensions.  Patricia is passionate about simplifying financial jargon to empower individuals to attain financial independence, whether as one-on-one sessions or in groups. The firm clientele includes both individuals and corporate accounts including Minet, GlaxoSmithKline, Sanlam Investments, Enwealth Financial Services, AIB Capital, etc.

Patricia worked as the Group Managing Director, Asset Management, and Property for UAP Old Mutual Group, with operations across the East Africa region.  While with the Group, she also held the post of Corporate Director, Old Mutual Life Assurance, and sat on a number of boards as a director across the UAP Old Mutual Group. Prior to this, Patricia worked with PineBridge Investments East Africa Limited (formerly AIG Investments) as Head of Africa Business Development and Vice President, Alexander Forbes Financial Services (EA) Limited as an Actuarial Consultant and as the Benefits Administration Manager for the Local Authorities Provident Fund.

Patricia has board experience and currently sits as a Council Member of the United States International University – Africa, Executive Committee Member of Priory of St. John Ambulance and is Chairperson of the Nairobi Stock Exchange Derivatives Committee. Prior to this, she was a Director of K-Rep Bank (now Sidian Bank) and Chairperson of Association of Retirement Benefits Schemes (ARBS). On the consulting front, she has acted as Pension advisor to the National Bank of Rwanda (Central Bank), East African Community Secretariat, and on World Bank assignment.  She was part of the Capital Market Authority Adhoc Committee on Insider Trading in 2019.

Patricia is a CFA(R) Charter holder, Member of CFA Institute, USA, and has undertaken courses with Insead Business School.  She holds a Masters of Business Administration Degree (Finance) and a Bachelors of Science Degree (Mathematics/Statistics) and is pursuing a 2nd Masters in Arts (Counselling Psychology).  She is a Certified Trainer and Trustee, Trustee Development Programme, College of Insurance/Humber University, Certified Trainer of Trainers Kenya Institute of Education.     

Mariam Nansubuga, CFA
Vice President | Member of Member Services Committee

Mariam heads the Credit Risk Management section at DFCU bank. She is a board member, the Vice President, and a member of the Member services committee of CFA Society East Africa. She is a Director at Sync Consults Limited and the President of Muslim Hands Foundation

Mariam has over 14 years of experience in Credit Risk management with Barclays and DFCU bank. Her experience spans Deal sourcing, Credit origination, assessment, appraisal, approval, Credit due diligence, (including business analysis, interpretation & assessment of financial information as well as preparation & analysis of financial projections). She has hands-on experience in structuring financial solutions for SMEs, large Corporates, and Multi-Nationals based on their business models and needs. She has developed and reviewed policies, products, pricing framework, and Credit Risk assurance frameworks consistent with IFRS & FIA prudential norms. She designed the model risk governance framework for DFCU bank and leads the validation of all risk models, model-based decisions, and guidelines. She provides advisory services to all business units on credit risk matters and is responsible for minimizing shocks arising from changes in the macro-economic environment and sector trends through detailed market assessment.

As a Director at Sync Consults for 10 years now, she has led strategic and business planning missions, provided Transaction advisory services to clients seeking debt, private equity, and public funding, Conducted due diligence and valuations in Merger and Acquisition transactions. She is an IFC (International Finance Corporation) Certified Trainer and has delivered training workshops in finance for several clients within the region. She conducts Industry Research and Benchmarking and provides Business Development services for clients at different stages of the business life cycle. Mariam is a Tutor of the CFA program with MAT Abacus.

Mariam holds a First class degree in BSc. Statistics & Economic from Makerere University, the CFA designation, a PGD, and a Masters degree in Business Administration from the Herriot watt University. Mariam has attended Leadership programs with various institutions including Gordon Institute of Business Science, University of Pretoria, Strathmore Business School, and is accredited in Advanced Commercial Lending by IFS School of Finance in the United Kingdom.

​Steve Wamathai, CFA
Board Treasurer | Chair of Finance and Administration Committee

Steven Wamathai, CFA, is a volunteer director and treasurer at the Society, having joined the board in 2017. He is the Principal and CEO of Evernai Capital, a boutique corporate finance and advisory firm. Prior to founding Evernai, he served as Senior Portfolio Manager at GenAfrica Asset Managers responsible for client investment portfolios across the East Africa region for 10 years. Previous to that, he served in the finance team at Unilever East Africa, leaving in 2016 while serving as a financial accountant. Steven holds an MBA in Finance from United States International University and a bachelor's degree in commerce from the University of Nairobi. 

​Alan N. Lwetabe, CFA, CIPM
Chairperson PR & Advocacy Committee | Member of Candidates Committee

Alan N. Lwetabe, CFA, is a member of the board and sits on the PR and Advocacy and the Candidates Committees of the CFA Society East Africa. As the Chair, Advocacy Committee, he is responsible for policy and regulatory relations. He oversees regional advocacy efforts including regulatory consultations, policy research, and engagement with regional capital markets and investment advisory regulators and supports stakeholder advisory groups engaged in investment management policy issues in the region. His work is focused on advancing investor protection, financial market transparency and fairness, financial reporting and audit policy, and industry professionalism.

He is a former banking sector regulator with over 8 year's relevant experience in the role. Amongst his many previous responsibilities, he was responsible for evaluating financial conduct, fairness, and appropriateness of commercial bank transactions with retail clients. He has further served in other job functions at the Bank of Uganda including work as a financial analyst, performance analyst, and fixed income portfolio manager. He is currently the team leader of the reserves management team at the Bank of Uganda.

He is also a technical advisor to the Board of Trustees of the Makerere University Retirement Benefits Scheme; Deposit Protection Fund (DPF) of Uganda and the Gabula Royal Foundation. In mid-2019, He was approved as a member of the Global Industry Standards (GIS) Steering Committee of the CFA Institute for the FY19/20. Alan holds a BA and MA in economics degree from Makerere University and was awarded the CFA charter in 2012.

​Susan Khainza, CFA
Chairperson Branding & Public Relations Committee
​Susan Khainza is currently working in finance at TPS (U) and has previously worked in Financial Advisory. Susan has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, a Diploma in Management of Olympic Sports organisations and is a CFA Charterholder.

Susan has been an active CFA Society Volunteer in mentorship, member value, and Brand positioning, and is currently Chair of the Brand and PR Committee.

Susan believes that the Society has a key role to play in supporting professional development, bettering our community, deepening the capital markets, ensuring sound capital allocation that is critical in building a healthy society and advocating for ethics and professionalism.

Upendo Mick Kadikos, CFA
Chairperson Member Services  Committee

Upendo Mick Kadikos, CFA, is an academician at Ardhi University, she is an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Business studies. Upendo has served in this role for a period of over 5 years. At Ardhi University, Upendo is the representative of the Confucius Institute, a public educational organization under the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China.

Upendo has over 5 years' experience in consultancy as a Financial Management expert helping both individuals and corporate institutions. She also is a certified trainer on Mortgage Financing.

Upendo is a chartered financial Analyst who also holds an MBA from Dalian Maritime University-China. She has two Bachelor's Degrees in Bcom Accounting from the University of Dar es Salaam and BBA International Business from Hogeschool Utrecht –Netherlands.

Upendo has been an active volunteer in the CFA Society EA representing Tanzania since 2016. She is the current chairperson of the CFA Society East Africa Member Service Committee.

Upendo is passionate about Entrepreneurship and Leadership.

​Francis Mwangi, CFA
​Member of the  Branding & Public Relations Committee

He currently serves as the CEO of Kestrel Capital (EA) Limited, a leading Eastern Africa Investment Bank. Francis has 15 years of experience in the financial markets. Francis has been actively involved in advising local and international money managers/investment banks on investment opportunities across East Africa. He has also actively participated in originating and structuring both public and private, equity, and debt transactions.

Prior to joining Kestrel Capital, between 2011 and 2018, Francis worked for Standard Investment Bank as Head of Research where he steered the setting up of the research department. Between 2006 and 2011, he worked for African Alliance Kenya as a Senior Investment Analyst.

Francis has served as a Board Member of CFA Society East Africa since 2014. He also seats on the Nairobi Securities Exchange Trading and Technology Committee.  

Francis was Awarded his CFA Charter (CFA®) in 2010. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance Major) honors degree from the University of Nairobi and he is a Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA). 

​Bernard Kiarie, CFA
Chairperson Candidate Services Committee & Member of the Advocacy Committee

Bernard is currently the Regional Banking Sector Head-East Africa at the African alliance. He is overseeing the growth and development of the research department, investment research coverage across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Mauritius and Botswana and mentoring and offering leadership to investment analysts. 

Previously, Bernard was the Head of Research at Faida Investment Bank.

Bernard has a wealth of experience spanning over 14 years in the capital markets and the regional business environment, operating in various leadership roles. He has established and led critical functional departments within the organizations that he has worked in. In addition, he has executed corporate finance mandates worth over USD 446 million across the East African region as well as initiating investment research coverage on companies in various industries and in different African jurisdictions. 

Bernard holds a B.A (Economics) degree from Kenyatta University and he is a Chartered Financial Analyst®. 

​Francis Nasyomba, CFA
Board Secretary | Member of the Member Services  & Candidate Services  Committees

Francis is a CFA charter holder, and a CPA, with more than 15-year experience in the field of accounting and financial investment with specialization in Private Equity.

He started off his financial career with Deloitte in the audit department where he left as an audit senior. He has experience managing transactions in various Private Equity houses including TBL Mirror Fund, Centum Investments, and Agrivie encompassing various sectors ranging from Food and Agribusiness, Financial Services, Healthcare, Education, Real Estate, Technology, and FMCG. He has been involved in differently sized transactions as an investor and advisor and also managed portfolios at various stages of growth.

He is a Principal at Raisin Capital and Investments and is in charge of Special Opportunities Investments in addition to overseeing advisory engagements across the business. He is responsible for the setup, product development and go to market of Raisin; he imparts his skills and knowledge in advisory and passion for distressed assets, bringing with him his vast experience in transactional structuring, risk analysis, portfolio management, and business funding among others. Francis is engaged with the CFA society and supports in various initiatives including participating in the CFA challenge mentoring CFA surgeries, and conferences participation among others.
