ModeratorSelena Swartzfager is president of the Mississippi Council on Economic Education (MCEE) where for over eight years she has worked to increase the economic and financial literacy of Mississippi teachers and students. She recently completed a seven year term on the executive committee of the National Association of Economic Educators and has served for five years on the advisory committee of the national Council for Economic Education. Under her leadership, the MCEE was selected as the recipient of the newly established national Council for Economic Education 2017 Outstanding State Council of the Year Award. MCEE also received the Governor's Partnership Award under her leadership from MS Association of Partners in Education in 2016. She was selected by the Mississippi Business Journal as one of the Top 50 Leading Business Women in Mississippi in 2013 and as a finalist for the 2014 Business Woman of the Year. She was named an Outstanding Advocate by the MS Association for Gifted Children. The Mississippi Business Journal awarded her the Top 40 Under 40 award. Selena earned a BS in Management with an emphasis on Human Resources at the University of Southern Mississippi and an MBA from Millsaps College. She is a licensed teacher in the areas of business education, social studies, and economics and is a Master Teacher of Economics. In her spare time, she is an avid cyclist that competes in both mountain bike and gravel bike races across the state of Mississippi. Selena is the team director for the state's only high school mountain bike team, the Mississippi Blues Composite mountain bike team that competes in the Alabama NICA league. She is married to Glenn (attorney) for 27 years and has two sons, Ashton (24) and Greyson (16).
Andrew J. Patterson, CFA, is a senior economist in Vanguard Investment Strategy Group, where he leads the team charged with developing and communicating Vanguard's economic and market outlook. He has co-authored research on a number of topics, including the global economy, fixed income, and asset allocation while also providing support for various investment management initiatives, including the Vanguard Capital Markets Model®. Mr. Patterson joined Vanguard in 2002. He earned a B.S. in finance with a minor in economics from The Pennsylvania State University and an M.B.A. from Villanova University. He is a CFA® charterholder.
Alex Dryden, CFA, is a Global Market Strategist on the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Global Market Insights Strategy Team. In this role, Alex is responsible for delivering timely market and economic insights to clients across the country. He is a frequent guest on CNBC, Bloomberg and other major news outlets, and is often quoted in the financial press. Originally, Alex worked in the EMEA Market Insights team, based in the London office. In this role, Alex was responsible for the construction and distribution of the Market Insights program to clients in the United Kingdom and Europe. Alex relocated to the US Market Insights team in 2017. Prior to joining the firm, Alex was a restructuring analyst at Ernst & Young responsible for the valuation, dissolution and liquidation of large and medium size enterprises. Alex holds a degree in International Business, Finance and Economics from the University of Manchester. He is a CFA® charterholder, a CAIA® charterholder and has completed the Investment Management Certificate (IMC).
Chad McKeithen is the Managing Director of Fixed Income Strategies & Research at Duncan-Williams, Inc., one of the largest minority owned investment banking firms in the nation. He currently leads a team that works with institutional clients to develop and manage high performing fixed-income portfolios. He also specializes in institutional risk management, balance sheet management and hedging/derivative initiatives. Mr. McKeithen currently teaches a post graduate class on global economics for the Kentucky General Banking School and he is a frequent speaker and author to national associations. He received his BBA in Banking & Finance from The University of Mississippi.
Dr. Ormala Krishnan heads the International and Emerging Markets Small Capitalization teams for Mondrian Investment Partners Limited. Dr. Krishnan started her investment career in 1993 with Singapore based Koeneman Capital Management. Prior to joining Mondrian in 2000 as a portfolio manager, Dr. Krishnan was an investment consultant with William M Mercer. Upon completion of her BSc in Pure and Applied Mathematics from the National University of Singapore, Dr. Krishnan achieved her MSc in Actuarial Science from City University, London. In 2006, Dr. Krishnan completed her Doctoral program in Investment and Finance from Sir John Cass Business School, City of London. Her doctoral thesis was on 'Value versus Growth in the Asian Equity Markets'.
