Who had the most influence on you growing up, and why?
My parents. My dad is always learning new things and reading about complicated ideas. He inspired me to always be curious, strive to learn more, and to dig to the bottom of “why?” My mom has taught me to not forget the forest for the trees - to keep things in perspective and simple.
What made you decide to pursue the CFA charter?
I wanted to take on a self-study program that was still rigorous and reputable. Dr. Walter Neely, CFA, and Arty Finkelberg, CFA, CFP® (both members of CFA Society Mississippi) encouraged me to look into the CFA charter. When I saw the topics it covered, I knew it was the right path to take.
What do you enjoy most about your current professional role?
Every day is different, and I get to learn new things and meet interesting people every day. Each day is a challenge and requires creative problem solving. To know that we are helping clients do what they love is both humbling and profound.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Paradoxically it is a tie between: “Don’t grow too old too young” and C.S. Lewis’s “There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.”
What motivated you to join CFA Society Mississippi?
I wanted to keep my textbook knowledge relevant and up to date. Also, who can turn down the french onion soup at Anjou?
What advice would you give to a current or potential candidate?
Stay curious. When you’re on your fourth cup of coffee and continuously studying the same difficult topics, only curiosity and love of learning will keep you motivated.
