How long will it take for my application to be approved?

The CFA Institute reviews all membership applications. The application process can take 30 to 90 days, depending on when your application is submitted.

Can I transfer my society membership to CFAOC?

Yes. You can change your society membership and update your personal information by logging into your user account at cfainstitute.org. Please note that dues to member societies are non-transferable and non-refundable.

Can I be a member of more than one local society?

Yes. Many members choose to join multiple societies so that they may participate in the benefits and programming of those societies. To add an additional member society, log in to your user account at cfainstitute.org and navigate to Manage Account > Membership and Society Applications > New Society Application.

Can I upgrade my current membership to a Regular membership?

Yes. You may apply for Regular membership by logging into your user account at cfainstitute.org and navigating to Manage Account > Membership and Society Applications > New Regular CFA Application. Dues for the current membership year will be applied to your new Regular membership.

When does the membership year begin?

The membership year runs from 1 July to 30 June.

If I become a candidate in the CFA Program, am I also a member of CFA Institute?

No. CFA Institute membership is separate from enrollment in the CFA Program.

What are CFAOC requirements for professional references?

CFAOC requires three professional reference statements. If one of your references is a Regular member of CFAOC, only two professional reference statements are required. Supervisor references are preferred. If you are the principal of a firm, self-employed, or retired you should seek references from Regular members of CFAOC. Students may use a professor as a professional reference.


If you are unable to provide the required references, it is recommended that you attend CFAOC events to meet Regular members that may be able to provide you with a professional reference. You may also contact the CFAOC Membership Committee (
cfaocmembership@gmail.com) to be introduced to society members.

 

When does my membership become active?

Once your application is approved by the CFA Institute, you may activate your membership at any time by following the instructions in your e-mail notification. To activate, you will need to pay your dues and file your Professional Conduct Statement online.

Why is my application processed by the CFA Institute if I am applying for Associate membership?

Although Associate members are not required to become members of the CFA Institute, all applications are subject to the same approval process. Please note that Associate members submit annual membership dues directly to CFAOC, while Regular and Associate members submit membership dues online via their user account at cfainstitute.org.

What does it cost to join CFAOC?

CFAOC annual dues for all membership levels are $135. To become a Regular or Affiliate member, you must also join the CFA Institute and pay annual dues of $275.
