Senior Vice President, Head of Exchange Traded Funds
Michael Cooke was appointed Senior Vice President and Head of Exchange Traded Funds for Mackenzie Investments in April 2015. He leads the Mackenzie ETF team and oversees all aspects of the Mackenzie ETF strategy through cross-functional engagement with internal and external partners.
Michael has more than 22 years of experience in the investment management industry across institutional and retail markets. He has held progressively senior positions at several leading global asset management and capital markets firms. His key areas of expertise include global ETF business strategy and derivative product structuring/marketing.
Michael earned his BA (Honours) in Political Studies from Queen’s University in Kingston, ON.
Head of Canada ETFs at First Trust
Karl is an innovative and leading ETF industry veteran who has been at the forefront of some of the industry’s recent change. Karl is responsible for setting the strategic direction for the region and leading a team of First Trust investment professionals delivering ETF solutions to investment advisors and portfolio managers and has organically raised over $1 billion in ETF assets in Canada since inception in 2013.
Previous to First Trust, Karl was the Head of Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) and Structured Product Development for Claymore Investments, one of the fastest growing asset management firms in Canada's history.
Karl provides insightful market commentary on a variety of topics including current events and industry trends as a regular guest on BNN, Bloomberg Canada and more recently Bloomberg. He has also been featured in a variety of publications such as The Financial Post, Globe & Mail, Reuters, Morningstar, Wealth Professional and The Investment Executive.
Mr. Cheong is bilingual, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from McGill University and is a Charter Financial Analyst charter holder (CFA®. Karl is also a member of the CFA Institute and Toronto CFA Society
Director, Canada iShares Product
Steven Leong is a director within BlackRock’s iShares Global Markets and Investments team, with over ten years experience in the asset mangement industry. Steven has extensive expertise in the development and ongoing operation of ETFs. Since 2008, he has worked at BlackRock in Toronto, having previously been based in London, where he focused on UCITS-based iShares ETFs. Steven graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics from the London School of Economics in 2005

Paul joined the Global Equity Derivatives desk at BMO Capital Markets in 1994 and has covered clients on many derivative products over the years. Currently, his primary role is covering institutional end users of ETF products by sourcing liquidity and sharing insights and trade ideas.
VP | Exchange Traded Funds & Quantitative | Equity Research
Jin covers the ETF sector for BMO Capital Markets. Jin joined BMO in early 2013 as a Research Associate supporting our quantitative and technical analyst. Jin focused on providing top-down quantitative analysis and customized equity screening tools for clients. He was promoted to an analyst role in 2016 covering exchange-traded funds. In 2018, Jin expanded his coverage to include quantitative factor research. Jin holds a Bachelor of Computer Science, Business Option from University of Waterloo.
