 Overview

CFA Society San Diego was founded in 1962 as the Financial Analysts Society of San Diego, Inc. to promote a high standard of ethics and sound professional standards of investment management and research, and to enhance professional knowledge and skills.

The Society was admitted to the Association for Investment Management and Research (AIMR) on November 4, 1963. In May 2004, AIMR became CFA Institute. In May 2005, the Society changed its name to CFA Society San Diego (CFASSD), in order to more closely align with CFA Institute and the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) designation.

There are more than 500 members of CFASSD, including security analysts, portfolio managers, bankers, and other investment professionals. Approximately 460 CFASSD members hold the CFA®​ designation, and many others are currently candidates for this professional designation.​

 Our Mission

The mission of CFASSD is to serve the needs of professionals in the investment decision making process by providing a forum for the exchange of information and ideas among its members, by enhancing member's investment knowledge, and by encouraging high ethical standards and professional conduct among all participants in the investment industry.

To achieve its MISSION, the society will:

  • Provide regular programs consisting of corporate presentations by both established and emerging public companies, representing a broad spectrum of industry participants.
  • Provide special educational programs on key issues and new developments within the investment industry.
  • Maintain a sound and growing membership base of individuals involved in the investment decision-making process.
  • Promote the need for high industry wide ethical standards.
  • Maintain a strong financial position.​

 Our Profile

CFASSD sponsors luncheons with presentations by top management of companies, educational seminars and workshops, and programs on economics, capital markets and other topics of current interest to the investment community.

Membership in CFASSD also confers membership in CFA Institute, a nonprofit professional organization of investment practitioners. The mission of CFA Institute is to maintain a permanent professional organization with the highest possible ehtical, professional, and educational standards within the broadly defined investment management and research community. CFA Institute was founded in January 1990 as a result of the combination of the FAF and the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts (ICFA).

CFASSD informs members of the society's activities through periodic mailings of program announcements, employment opportunities, and other news of interest to CFASSD members. CFASSD supports the CFA examination program through study groups and a professional affiliation with Schweser to provide discounts to local CFA exam candidates.

CFASSD members, through their a affiliation with CFA Institute, are entitled to attend CFA Institute conferences and seminars at member rates and receive CFA Institute publications.
