 What is the CFA Program?

The Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) Program, administered by CFA Institute, is a self-study curriculum and examination program for investment management professionals. 

Established in 1962, the CFA Program​ allows investment professionals to earn the CFA​ charter, the most highly respected credential in the investment management profession.​ By providing a solid foundation of practical portfolio management skills and investment analysis​, the CFA​ charter designation opens doors for advancement within the investment profession. It communicates to clients, employers and other investment professionals that the charterholder mastered a ​​demanding curriculm and is committed to upholding the highest ethical standards. 

CFA Society San Diego actively promotes earning the CFA charter and supports current and future CFA candidates by offering CFA Level I and II prep courses through the year, as well as numerous networking opportunities to meet and learn from local CFA® professionals.

 What are the requirements to enroll?

Qualified candidates must have one of the following:​​

  • ​​Bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree (or be in the final year of bachelor’s degree program) 
  • 4 years of professional work experience 
  • A combination of professional work and university experience that totals at least 4 years​

 How do I earn the CFA designation?

Qualified charterholders must:

  • Successfully pass the 3 exams
  • Have 4 years of professional work experience in the investment decision-making process (accrued before, during, or after passing the exams)
  • Join CFA Institute as a regular member​​​​
