"Much can change in a quarter of a century. When we began our journey in 2001, global markets were still recovering from the turmoil of the dotcom bubble; a curious new term called BRIC was coined; China entered the WTO; market darling Enron declared bankruptcy; and the SARB had recently adopted inflation targeting. It is in this transformative cauldron that CFA Society South Africa was forged and established.
Our Society has grown tremendously this century; largely due to the efforts of our stakeholders, members, volunteers, staff and board members who have all contributed with distinction hitherto. We now stand as one of the top 20 Societies globally and one of the top 5 in the EMEA region - this despite our relatively small economies and modest population sizes. It is a testament to the continued trust placed in us by our members, as well sd the value derived from our shared community, shared purpose, shared vision.
That vision - to build a world class investment profession that drives Southern Africa's finance industry - is emblazoned in our collective activities and projects. From job shadowing for school students; to career pathways for university students; to mentorship programs for young professionals; to signature events for established professionals; and thought leadership for industry leaders - we strive to nurture and grow multiple touch points on our members' lives throughout their careers.
Join us this year as we celebrate a momentous milestone, a point of reflection, and a commitment to exceed our collective expectations into the future.
