CFA Society South Africa 2nd Annual Retirement Reform Workshop in collaboration with IRFA and SAVCA

Overview
South Africa has a well-established retirement sector and has developed a world class regulatory framework linked to this. The Mercer CFA Institute Global Pension Index (Mecer Report) recognises these achievements and provides a gauge of how South Africa compares to the global environment. Much can be learnt from these insights, however there a very specific South African issues that need to be addressed. The Mercer Report uses three main indicators to calculate the overall scores. These are: Adequacy, Sustainability and Integrity, defined in more detail below: 
 
In the 2022 report, South Africa ranked 34 out of 44 retirement income systems globally.
 
This annual industry-wide workshop was to assist in identifying what steps could be taken to improve South Africa’s overall ranking and in so doing, improve retirement outcomes for members overall.
