Estate Planning in a Higher Interest Rate Environment

• QPRTs are more effective in high-rate environments due to the increased discount rate utilized to calculate the value of the taxable gift
• Increased annuity rates offer enhanced ILIT funding opportunities
• Higher rates facilitate higher rates on loans from trusts to grantors, increasing the notes payable in the grantors’ estates and thus reducing estate taxes owed
• Higher rates suggest higher required rates on preferred partnership interests, offering potentially enhanced discounting opportunities on transfers of common interests
