2026 CFA Exam Study Group

Earning a CFA charter is a challenging path that requires extraordinary discipline, dedication, and support from those around you. CFA Society Baltimore is excited to announce the creation of a bi-monthly in-person study group led by a CFASB member and charterholder to support your study journey. The group’s goal is to offer an in-person study group setting where you can attend, as needed, and seek additional answers to questions and/or topics of your choosing.   Please note: This study group is not sponsored by CFASB, nor is it an official CFASB study group, however we are happy to support it.     Study Group Details What:  In-person study group meetings with current and former CFA candidates who work through your questions with you.   Who:  Open to all CFA program candidates (register in advance to submit any questions you may have)   When: The study group will meet four times (bi-monthly for two months) before each exam window from 5:30 - 7:00 pm. Drawing on academic literature and empirical evidence, the discussion highlights how country-level return patterns can be modeled and used to support disciplined allocation decisions. The session also addresses the limitations of traditional approaches, which are often either purely statistical or highly discretionary. It introduces a structured perspective on integrating macroeconomic information into the investment process, enabling a more comprehensive interpretation of global market dynamics. Featured Speaker: Sailesh S. Radha is the Founder and CEO of Borealis Global Analytics, a research-driven platform focused on systematic, country-level equity allocation and portfolio construction for global investment professionals. He develops and applies macroeconomic and smart beta frameworks to inform country allocation decisions and global portfolio construction. Sailesh is the pioneer of the Medium-Term Country Yield Forecast (CY-M), a framework developed through an extended application of Shiller’s CAPE ratio in international markets. His research has been published in leading practitioner journals, including the Journal of Portfolio Management and the Journal of Index Investing. Notable works include “Using CAPE to Forecast Country Returns for Designing an International Country Rotation Portfolio” and “A Prognostic Yield Measure for Country Selection in the Medium-Term.” During the European sovereign debt crisis, Sailesh contributed to the development of analytical frameworks at Yardeni Research to assess sovereign balance sheet risks across the GIIPS countries—Greece, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, and Spain—helping inform global investment perspectives during a period of systemic stress. His professional experience spans global equity strategy, economics, and technology, including roles at Yardeni Research, CCM Investment Advisers, the World Health Organization, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. This multidisciplinary background informs his approach to integrating macroeconomic insight with systematic portfolio design and data-driven investment frameworks. Join us for our in-person/virtual luncheon -- "The Behavioral Portfolio" -- on Wednesday, Aug. 5!   Phillip 'Felipe' Toews, author of "The Behavioral Portfolio," shows that conventional portfolios can be obliterated by extended stock market drops or hyperinflation, and require that advisors ignore important historical precedents when building them. He deconstructs investing to ask: What are the core objectives we're trying to achieve? He builds a quantitative framework around investing optimistically but addressing contingencies of significant deflation or inflation.   This luncheon is open to members and non-members. Full-time students can attend for free -- just select the "full-time student" ticket and use your school email address when registering.   Please note the different from usual venue for this luncheon - we're changing things up for this one!   The in-person luncheon will be held at The West Des Moines Marriott. How Do We Stay Ahead of Others When AI Makes Us All Feel Smart

For forty years, our profession rewarded those who could find information, process it faster, and act on it before others. That edge is now disappearing. Generative AI has made knowledge abundant and nearly free, which means the scarce resource is no longer what we know, but how clearly we think, judge, and decide.   In this dinner talk, Michael Cheah, CFA draws on his three books to explore what this shift means for us in two roles we all share. As professionals, through What the Movies Taught Me About Investing and Thriving in an Era of GenAI, he examines why situational judgment, variant perception, and disciplined thinking become more valuable precisely as analysis becomes commoditised.   As parents, through his children’s manga The AI Pilot, he asks how we prepare a generation that will never know a world without AI—and what seven thinking skills they will need to navigate it wisely.   The evening is an invitation to step back from the tools and ask the deeper question: in an age where machines can know almost everything, what is it that only humans can still do well, and how do we cultivate it in ourselves and in our children?
